ZTE Wins Packet Core Contract from KPN Group Belgium

ZTE (News - Alert) Corporation, a provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, has expanded its relationship with KPN Group Belgium, a subsidiary of the Netherlands' Koninklijke KPN (News - Alert). The current deal includes a packet switched core network.

As per the terms of this agreement, KPNGB will deploy ZTE’s packet switched CN equipment which supports unified radio access. The contract is the second of its kind between ZTE and KPN, following the September 2010 CN construction project with KPN Germany.

“As a leading telecoms operator, KPN has strict requirements for vendor and partner relationships. ZTE meets those requirements by providing highly efficient and innovative solutions to make an effective contribution to improving network performance for the KPN Group,” Xu Ziyang (News - Alert), vice president at ZTE Corporation said.

The ZTE Uni-Core solution supports the seamless evolution from 2G/3G packet core to evolved packet core, and assists operators in supporting unified 2G, 3G and 4G access. ZTE helps operators to build a smart pipe that supports service differentiation and traffic distribution, and enables a flexible policy mechanism. This will help KPNGB deliver differentiated services, further enhancing its service innovation capability and network competitive strength.

“KPN and ZTE have a history of successful partnerships cooperating on technologies such as HSPA, core network, etc. The new CN project is another step to enhancing KPN’s overall network performance,” Tom Poelhekken, chief technology officer at KPNGB said in a statement.

ZTE delivers custom-made products and services to over 500 operators in more than 140 countries, helping them to meet the changing needs of their customers. As of Q1 2012, ZTE has secured over 20 EPC commercial contracts, deployed more than 80 trial networks globally, and has cooperation with mainstream operators including Vodafone, China Mobile, KPN, Telenor (News - Alert), CSL, H3G and America Movil.

ZTE Corporation recently launched its latest Android smartphone, the ZTE Acqua V880E, in Malaysia. The mid-range model offers 1GHz processor, 4-inch touchscreen display, 5 megapixel camera, GPS and WiFi (News - Alert) connectivity and is priced at RM699.
