Xirrus Announces New Application Developed on the Splunk Platform

By Jyothi Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

Xirrus has unveiled its latest application on the Splunk (News - Alert) (News - Alert) platform to provide Xirrus Wireless Array to give customers deeper business intelligence about their Wi-Fi networks.

Xirrus, through its new Splunk application, promises to offer customers rich insight into mobile device type, and application usage, turning wireless data into a significant value for businesses. This app includes field extractions, event types, searches and dashboards to help shine a light on status and activity on Xirrus Arrays.

"Increasingly, employees will be accessing corporate data and resources via wireless networks, and this activity needs to be monitored as part of your overall security and compliance strategy. Watching for abnormal patterns in this data can reveal unauthorized data access and use," said Mark Seward, senior director, security and compliance, Splunk.

Seward said that Xirrus is a great match for Splunk as Xirrus' high-performance Wi-Fi networks spin off huge amounts of machine data since they handle very high-volume, high-capacity demands from thousands of concurrent users in campus, event, and enterprise environments.

Xirrus customers can download Splunk for Xirrus Wireless Arrays for free on Splunkbase. It helps in managing data presented in intuitive on-demand dashboards to make informed business decisions and drive mobility strategy. Typical insights include: mobile device type and quantity, activity by machine type, current vs. average data rate per Array, alerts about insecure access points on the network, and the density of users/traffic at each station or location.

"We can now deliver big data insights and mobile business intelligence through our integration with Splunk to provide even greater value for our customers," said Bruce Miller (News - Alert) (News - Alert), vice president of product marketing, Xirrus.

Adding, "Whether it's a university administrator trying to analyze Netflix vs. Facebook (News - Alert) (News - Alert) traffic as a possible culprit of network congestion, or a CIO forecasting next year's budget to support a corporate BYOD strategy, Xirrus provides a crystal ball to help companies make smarter business decisions to maintain peak wireless performance."
