Harris Receives $297M Order for Falcon Tactical Radio Systems

By Rahul Arora, TMCnet Contributor

Harris Corporation (News - Alert) (HRS), an international communications and information technology company, recently announced in a statement that the U.S. Department of the Navy has signed a $297-million Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract for the company’s Falcon tactical radio systems.

According to the terms of the agreement, HRS will provide Falcon III AN/PRC-117G wideband manpack; the Falcon III AN/PRC-152 multiband handheld; and the Falcon II AN/PRC-150 high-frequency manpack radios.

Falcon III AN/PRC-117G wideband manpack provides warfighters unprecedented situational awareness of the battlefield through wireless, high-bandwidth communications, enabling applications such as streaming video, simultaneous voice and data feeds, collaborative chat, as well as combat net radio capabilities and connectivity to secure networks.

The AN/PRC-117G's wideband networking capabilities give warfighters on the move and field commanders critical real-time information through a man-portable radio that is significantly smaller, lighter and more capable than legacy units.

The Falcon III AN/PRC-152 single-channel multiband, multimission handheld radio is providing the optimal transition to JTRS technology. Already in use by all branches of the U.S. Department of Defense, many of its allies and U.S. federal agencies, the software upgradeable AN/PRC-152 satisfies the evolving mission requirements of warfighters by delivering secure, real-time information and communication at all points of need during coordination, combat and crisis.

The Falcon II AN/PRC-150(C) is an advanced military Type-1 HF radio, setting the standard for reliable, long-range High-Frequency (HF) communication on the battlefield. Designed to provide soldiers with secure voice and data communications, even in the harshest conditions, thousands of AN/PRC-150(C) military HF radios provide continuous coverage in the 1.6 to 60 MHz frequency range and have been deployed by U.S. and coalition forces, enabling them to stay connected to mission-critical information during missions where line-of-sight communications are not an option.

“Harris is the leading global provider of tactical communications to the Department of Defense and allies around the world, with the broadest portfolio of solutions,’’ said George Helm, president, U.S. Department of Defense business, Harris RF Communications. “This contract enables the Navy to deploy handheld, manpack, fixed mount/vehicular and base station radios for applications in high-frequency, very-high frequency, ultra-high frequency, line-of-sight and satellite communications. Our products are fully interoperable with all U.S. and coalition forces."
