By Meenakshi Shankar, TMCnet Contributor

Millions of people, applications and machines count on our technology each day to locate, track and communicate their position wirelessly. Swiss-based u-blox (News - Alert), a specialist in positioning and wireless semiconductors for the consumer, industrial and automotive markets, has been enabling its customers to discover more about the opportunities of embedded GPS/GNSS and wireless communication solutions. Continuing this trend, the company unveiled its new multi-GNSS receiver modules MAX-7, NEO-7 and LEA-7.

The new launches are noted to be industry’s most comprehensive line of GPS, GLONASS and QZSS modules and are in line with u-blox’s industry proven form factors. MAX-7, NEO-7 and LEA-7 series support M2M with best-in-class GNSS performance. The modules target telematics applications and support all satellite positioning systems in operation of recent times including GPS, GLONASS, QZSS and SBAS.

“Each MAX-7, NEO-7 and LEA-7 variant delivers fast, accurate and reliable GLONASS and GPS positioning with the industry’s lowest power consumption. Both GPS AND GLONASS modes perform even better than combined GPS/GLONASS solutions available on the market today,” Daniel Ammann, executive vice president of positioning product development at u-blox, said in a statement.

As indicated, NEO-7N will be the first variant available from November 2012 and followed by MAX-7C from December 2012.

With a broad portfolio of chips, modules and software solutions, u-blox is uniquely positioned to enable OEMs to develop innovative personal, professional and M2M solutions quickly and cost-effectively.

u-blox 7 modules use GPS/GNSS chips qualified according to AEC-Q100 and are manufactured at ISO/TS 16949 certified sites. Each module is intensively inspected and tested during production. The modules are fully qualified according to ISO 16750 – “Environmental conditions and electrical testing for electrical and electronic equipment for road vehicles” to provide high durability and reliability. All modules comply with green/halogen free standards.

All u-blox 7 generation modules are pin-to-pin compatible with previous u-blox 6 and u-blox 5 families allowing easy upgrade from existing designs. Each module is available in cost- effective variants as well as performance optimized variants.

Recently, u-blox AG successfully completed the stock purchase agreement with the shareholders of 4M Wireless Ltd. The details of the acquisition were previously announced on April 24, 2012.
