Orbit International's Power Group Bags Orders Worth $800k

By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor

The COTS unit of Orbit International Corp.’s Power Group recently secured two orders to be estimated in the region of around $800,000. Behlman Electronics, an ancillary of Orbit International, has been instrumental for bagging these two orders.

“Despite challenging economic conditions, Behlman’s business remains strong with significant activity for both new and repeat orders for its products used in COTS power applications. Behlman continues to work with major OEMs developing power solutions on many commercial and military programs which have and will continue to provide many years of repeat business,” Ron Storm, president and CEO at Behlman, said in a statement. “This strong base of business has helped fuel continued development of new standard COTS products, such as Behlman’s recent product launch of its industry leading VPXtra power modules. Development of new products has been a key driver in Behlman’s revenue and earnings growth over the past decade.”

The initial contract, worth nearly $696,000, is for a COTS power supply. The power supply will be incorporated in a United States Naval anti-submarine and anti-ship monitoring and targeting system. Shipments are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2013 and will be completed by the third quarter of 2013.

For more than a decade, the customer has been using Behlman’s COTS power supply.

The second order, worth nearly $112,000, is for a power supply that can be incorporated in an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). Drones or UAVs are pilotless military aircraft managed from the ground using a remote control unit running on a computer. This particular power unit has been offered by Behlman for quite a few years.

With the popularity for drone aircrafts on the rise, Behlman is expecting an increase in the number of orders for this power unit. The shipments for the power unit are expected to start in the first quarter of 2013 and will be completed by the second quarter of 2013.

Said Mitchell Binder, president and CEO at Orbit International: “2012 has been a year of strong bookings for our Power Group. Through September 30, bookings are up approximately 12 percent over the same period of 2011, which was a record year of bookings for our Power Group.”
