Global Telesat Contributes To Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts

By Madhubanti Rudra, TMCnet Contributor

It’ll take some time and effort to repair the damages caused by Hurricane Sandy. But corporate donations can significantly speed up the process. Global Telesat (News - Alert) Corp., a subsidiary of World Surveillance Group Inc., has come forward with its own donation offers.

Telesat’s donation includes satellite phones with unlimited calling for one year. Utilizing the satellite phones and airtime, the Manhattan Red Cross logistics department will be able to carry forward its relief efforts for Sandy victims in a more efficient manner. The satellite phone network will enable the relief workers to respond to the emergency calls and communicate with each other for addressing the devastation caused by the deadly hurricane.

Global Telesat provides mobile voice and data communications services globally via satellite to the U.S. government, defense industry and commercial users. GTC specializes in services related to the Globalstar (News - Alert) satellite constellation, including ground station construction, satellite telecommunications voice airtime, and tracking services.

The design, development and marketing of autonomous, lighter-than-air UAVs capable of carrying payloads guarantees these devices’ persistent security and/or wireless communications solutions at low, mid, and high altitudes. WSGI's airships are integrated with electronics systems and other high-technology payloads to offer real-time intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance or communications support to military, homeland defense, border control, drug interdiction, natural disaster relief and maritime missions.

“As a life-long resident of the New Jersey Shore, I experienced first hand the damage caused by Sandy and the effects of the loss of communications on both those impacted by the storm and emergency responders. While the cellular network providers work to re-establish their service, GTC wanted to ensure that emergency response workers were able to effectively do their jobs by being able to communicate immediately utilizing a satellite phone network,” WSGI's President and CEO, Glenn D. Estrella, explained in a statement.

A few months ago, the company was selected to provide specialized satellite tracking capabilities for yachts participating in the Ecker 1,000 Miles Race between Zadar, Croatia and Alanya, Turkey.
