Recently, Global Xpress signed L-3 Global Communications Solutions (GCS (News - Alert)) for a new partnership. L-3 Global Communications will be the initial launch partner for land satellite terminals for its upcoming Global Xpress service.
Global Xpress by Inmarsat (News - Alert) will be launched in 2013, and the company expects to provide full worldwide coverage in the latter part of 2014.
From compact user terminals it will provide downlink speeds of up to 50Mbps, and up to 5Mbps over the uplink.
This consists of the new Inmarsat-5 satellites constructed by Boeing (News - Alert), a U.S. satellite manufacturer and historic player in the satellite telecommunications arena.
Global Xpress will provide a never-before-seen combination of high data rates, bandwidth and global coverage. Inmarsat's new satellite is used by governments worldwide and it helps them in changing operations to Ka-band.
It will also offer super-fast uplink and downlink data rates. According to the company, all this is backed by Inmarsat quality standards, performance and global reach. Global Xpress is the only global Ka-band system that supports L-3 GCS (News - Alert) customers.
“Inmarsat is pleased to include L-3 GCS as a supplier of Global Xpress-qualified terminals,” said Leo Mondale, managing director of Global Xpress. “Government customers have come to rely on Panther and Hawkeye equipment for some of their most critical missions. They will be especially pleased that the outstanding performance and reliability they have come to expect in the field from L-3 GCS terminals will soon support global high-rate secure operations across the Inmarsat Global Xpress network."
Recently, the announced it was installing its FleetBroadband and new Assured Access services to Shared Services Canada (SSC) to enable worldwide coverage for 29 Canadian naval vessels. Inmarsat started installing the services to the Canadian Navy in October 2012, and introduced its FleetBroadband service in 2007. After that, it installed it on more than 30,000 commercial and government vessels, officials stated.
