MEASAT Satellite Systems Collaborates with RRsat Global Communications Network on TV, Radio Coverage Across Africa, Middle East and Europe

MEASAT (News - Alert) Satellite Systems Sdn. Bhd. recently signed an agreement with RRsat America - Global Communications Network Inc., a subsidiary of RRsat Global Communications Network Ltd., for capacity on the pending launch of the AFRICASAT-1a satellite, planned for launch in early 2013.

The satellite will have coverage across Africa, the Middle East and Europe, enabling the new platform to offer full TV and radio coverage to the African continent.

Under the terms of the agreement, RRsat has secured C-band capacity for a new MCPC platform on AFRICASAT-1a for video distribution services across Africa and the Middle East.

RRsat is a reputable provider of production, content management and end-to-end transmission services to more than 630 TV, radio and data channels using its integrated worldwide satellite, fiber and Internet communications network.

Through its six teleports and over 20 partner teleports, RRsat provides uplink, downlink and turnaround services.

Jarod Lopez, senior director of Sales and Marketing, MEASAT, indicated that MEASAT is pleased to support RRsat's expansion plans in the African and Middle Eastern regions. "A key partner since 2008 with MCPC platforms on the MEASAT-3a satellite, we are proud to be able to continue supporting RRsat's business growth in Africa," he said.

MEASAT showcased the AFRICASAT-1a satellite services at the AfricaCom 2012 exhibition, November 13-15.

Yaniv Lior, senior director of U.S. Sales and Operations, emphasized that in order to meet the increased needs of the fast growing African broadcast television market, they’ll be launching a new C-band MCPC platform on AFRICASAT-1a, capable of cost-effectively bringing content from Europe, Asia and the Americas for C-band contribution and distribution to Africa.

The platform will provide leading TV and radio channels the opportunity to reach new audiences across the continent as well, based on the RRsat Global Network.

RRsat Global Communications Network Ltd., through its RRsat Global Network, provides global, end-to-end, digital content management and distribution services to the rapidly expanding television and radio broadcasting industries – composed of satellite and terrestrial fiber optic capacity and the public Internet – covering more than 150 countries.
