Quake Global Integrates Q4000 Modem with OG2 Satellite Network of ORBCOMM

By Arvind Arora, TMCnet Contributor

The world of telecommunications has been witnessing new developments every day. Satellite networks are being upgraded to meet the ever growing data needs in a better and more effective manner.

Quake Global, Inc., a provider of advanced solutions for remote asset tracking, has enhanced its dual mode satellite/cellular data modem QUAKE Q4000 to offer comprehensive integration with the new OG2/OG1 satellite network by ORBCOMM (News - Alert), a company that offers global satellite and cellular data communications products.

While QUAKE develops industrial machine-to-machine, or M2M, modems for asset tracking and monitoring through satellite, cellular, GPS and other technologies; ORBCOMM provides enhanced solutions for asset tracking, management and remote control. Additionally, a well established network of international distributors enables QUAKE to offer its products to the original equipment manufacturers and other companies in the heavy equipment, aviation, maritime and trucking industries sectors.

Equipped with a number of advanced features, the new OG2 generation of ORBCOMM satellites aims at providing various additional benefits to its users. The new integration by QUAKE ensures that its Q4000 can enable smooth transition between the three modes of ORBCOMM’s first and second generation satellites and terrestrial networks. With the latest development, customers will be able to take all price, geography and coverage into account before finally choosing the best communications path for them.

Q4000 software defined radio modem offers optimum flexibility to the users, who can further leverage the enhanced network capabilities of OG1/OG2 ORBCOMM to yield maximum benefit out of the solution.

“The ORBCOMM OG2 constellation will enable faster communications speeds, improved coverage, increased message sizes, better power management, and other valuable features while continuing to support the efficient, reliable mission-critical communications available from the current constellation,” commented Polina Braunstein, president and chief executive officer at QUAKE. “ORBCOMM and QUAKE are working together to develop an M2M device that will take full advantage of these capabilities. This cost effective M2M telecommunications solution will greatly reduce the cost of data collection as well as improve enterprise ROI. With rising demand in the M2M industry, we have positioned QUAKE ahead of the game by insuring that the Q4000 production schedule is in lock-step with the much anticipated launch of ORBCOMM’s OG2 network.”

In October 2012, QUAKE Global Inc. and SkyWave Mobile Communications, a provider of wireless data communications for the M2M market, launched Q-Pro, an M2M solution designed to operate on the Russian Federation’s Inmarsat (News - Alert) satellite network.
