When you think about some of the most reliable defense contractors in the country, you probably think of Lockheed Martin (News - Alert) as being the most well known. It might take you awhile before you land on the name General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT). Just because the average citizen may not have heard about GDIT, doesn’t mean the company doesn’t have a strong standing in the military and government contractor world. The company was recently awarded a brand new contract, worth over $19 million by the U.S. Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Pacific in San Diego, California.
General Dynamics (News - Alert) has actually had a very good fall with several different contracts over the last few months. The United States Army has signed a contract with GDIT that will allow the company to continue working with the armed forces on a rapid acquisition communications program. The U.S. National Defense University also turned to them for IT services.
This particular contract will allow General Dynamics to aid the U.S Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center in a variety of different ways, including providing program and configuration management, technical services, systems engineering, hardware and software development, material analysis, testing, repair and installation services.
The programs that GDIT will be overseeing will be for autonomous and non-autonomous systems and will eventually have their fingerprints on areas dealing with intelligence and maritime surveillance. The company has become one of the go-to government contractors because of their expertise in these areas. Because of their trusted standing, the company will certainly reel in more government contracts in the coming months.
