Wavestream AeroStream Transceivers to be Integrated with TECOM Antenna Systems

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

Wavestream, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gilat Satellite Networks, will be supplying its AeroStream transceivers to TECOM Industries (News - Alert). Wavestream specializes in Commercial FAA Certified 25W and 40W Ku-band transceivers.

The AeroStream transceivers will be integrated with the TECOM KuStream 1000 and KuStream 1500 broadband antenna systems which will be used onboard commercial and military aircrafts for delivering in-flight, high-speed broadband connectivity.

Fran Auricchio, CEO at Wavestream (News - Alert) said, “Wavestream is proud to be a part of TECOM's industry-leading satellite antenna systems that provide in-flight connectivity for commercial airline passengers, and critical communications support for strategic military aircraft.”

“We have designed AeroStream products to meet the extreme operating environment and size and weight requirements necessary to suit today's aircraft designs. In a small, low-weight package, AeroStream provides the performance, efficiency and reliability needed to help provide uninterrupted communications wherever in the world they may be,” Auricchio added.

Officials explained that the AeroStream product line encompasses compact Ku-band transceivers in 25W and 40W transmit power with full transmit and receive band support suitable for pressurized and non-pressurized airborne environments.

Also, the AeroStream products follow all specifications issued by RTCA/DO-160G, Boeing, Airbus and ARINC (News - Alert) for commercial aircraft, while complying with MIL-STD requirements for military aircraft.

The transceivers are designed according to the Wavestream patented Spatial Power Advantage technology. The products feature high output power augmented with optimum efficiency and reliability, and are compact and light, making them suitable for use in extreme airborne environments.

The AeroStream 25W and 40W Ku-band transceivers also have the interfaces necessary to function seamlessly with different types of modems and Antenna Control Units.

The AeroStream transceivers will be used in TECOM antenna systems that meet RF requirements in applications for high-speed broadband connectivity and communications, telemetry, electronic warfare, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.

The antenna systems are designed to work optimally even in the most demanding and severe environments, added officials.

In August 2012, Optus, an Australian provider of mobile communications, mobile technology and broadband entertainment services, launched an initiative with Gilat Satellite Networks (News - Alert) to install over 48,000 Gilat SkyEdge II VSATs as part of the NBN Co’s Interim Satellite Service.
