U.S. Army Awards $2.8M Funded Order to TeleCommunication Systems for MICRO VSAT, Baseband Equipment

By Jyothi Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

The U.S. Army recently awarded a $2.8-million funded project to TeleCommunication Systems (News - Alert) to provide X- and Ku-Band MICRO VSAT satellite communications equipment.

The whole project is reportedly funded by the U.S. Army Project Manager for the Warfighter Information Network – Tactical (PM WIN-T) Commercial Satellite Terminal Program.

This procurement is happening through the Army's $5-billion World-Wide Satellite Systems (WWSS) contract vehicle.

"In order to conduct modern operations, our military needs secure and reliable satellite communications," said Michael Bristol, senior vice president and general manager of government solutions at TCS. "MICRO VSAT and baseband equipment meets this need while providing warfighters with the flexibility built into the smallest, lightest man-portable SATCOM terminal available today."

TCS’ Baseband IP Kits aid rapid response, and offer reliable commercial and U.S. Government secured encryption, remote location networking, and broadband Internet Protocol (IP) global area networking. Its SNAP Baseband Packages make a small footprint but a big impression, working efficiently in almost any application environment.

In addition, TCS's SNAP VSAT is a reliable SwiftLink deployable system designed to provide multimedia communications capabilities used for transmission of encrypted voice, video and data information to deployed soldiers in the battlefield.

The transportable and ruggedized terminals are integrated with modular and plug-and-play interfaces between all radio frequencies (RF) and baseband configurations to deliver communication solutions that are customised for operators' specific requirements. Equipped with a UOS system and a laptop/voice over internet protocol (VoIP) phone accessories case, the SNAP VSATs are capable of seamlessly working on Ku, Ka and X-band frequencies.

Headquartered in Annapolis, MD, TCS maintains technical, service and sales offices around the world. Government agencies worldwide use TCS' cyber security expertise, professional services, and highly secure deployable satellite solutions for mission-critical communications.
