Gilat Expands Military Customer Portfolio

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

Recently, Gilat was selected by a Southeast Asian Navy to upgrade its ground operations. The Navy will make use of Gilat’s IP-based satellite communications system for this purpose.

Navy personnel rely on dependable communications with quick data upload and download so they can handle emergency situations effectively. Gilat Satellite Networks (News - Alert) is a company that powers high-speed connectivity even in highly problematic environments for excellent operational flexibility and superiority.

As part of the contract, Gilat will provide redundant SkyEdge II hubs, RF transmission capability and VSAT terminals. These products provide enhanced bandwidth efficiency across all Navy units.

While facilitating strategic military communications on board the Navy's mobile vehicles, the enhanced bandwidth will improve connectivity to the Internet, video and other high-speed broadband services.

Gilat provides SatCom solutions on land, air and sea for military and HLS users all over the world. On today's netcentric battlefield, warfighters require dependable data, voice and video communication for total situational awareness.

For mission success, fast but safe connectivity without established terrestrial infrastructure is required.

“Gilat's SkyEdge II solution was selected for its advanced bandwidth utilization capabilities, a crucial commodity for any navy operating on limited and restrictive allocation of bandwidth resources," said Stephane Palomba, regional VP for Asia, Gilat. "The IP-based terminals will reduce expensive dial-up lease costs while equipping the Navy with affordable and highly efficient access to a broader range of communication applications enhancing their operational readiness.”

Recently, the company announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Wavestream (News - Alert), is shipping its AeroStream transceivers to TECOM Industries, Inc. For onboard use in commercial and military aircraft, these transceivers will be integrated into TECOM's KuStream 1000 and KuStream 1500 broadband antenna systems.

A core supplier for transceivers used in TECOM's antenna system solutions, Wavestream is offering Commercial FAA Certified 25W and 40W Ku-band transceivers.
