KVH Industries Offers Luxury Amenity Satellite TV to Small Boats

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

KVH Industries (News - Alert) has made satellite TV available for boaters, a luxury amenity expected only on super yachts and cruise ships. KVH specializes in in-motion satellite TV and communications systems. It has designed, manufactured, and sold over 150,000 mobile satellite antennas that can be used on vessels, vehicles, and aircrafts.

Satellite TV will now deliver news, sports, weather, and favorite television shows to sailors on small boats even while sailing. KVH is reducing the price of its 12.5 inch TracVision M1 marine satellite TV antenna by 20 percent. This affordable price will encourage more small boat owners to add this amenity, said officials.

Jim George, KVH’s director of sales for satellite products said, “Having satellite TVs onboard means you can spend the weekend on the water without missing the big game or a new episode of your favorite show. The kids can stay entertained with cartoons while adults enjoy easy access to weather reports and news, so everyone is happy.”

The satellite TV, weighing only 7.5 lbs. delivers satellite TV programming to boats in the coastal waters. The in-motion TracVision M1 system offers open water tracking and in-motion performance that are generally featured in larger antennas. The TracVision M1 also features easy setup, Whisper Drive motor technology, and versatile mounting options making installation possible in all types of boats.

The TracVision M1 is available in two configurations. The TracVision M1 has an integrated 12V DIRECTV receiver/controller which allows users to add a TV and DIRECTV service subscription to receive standard-definition programming.

If boaters prefer DISH Network or desire to switch between satellite TV service providers, they can select TracVision M1DX which features a 12V multiservice interface box/controller that supports home receivers like DISH Network and DIRECTV, officials said.

The TracVision M1 is a compact and reliable device making it suitable for the environment that exits in a sail boat. Also, since KVH maintains a nationwide network of factory-certified dealers, installation and service assistance will be readily available at marinas anywhere in the United States.

Recently KVH Industries announced a Business Class Service plan for cellular service providers for its mini-VSAT Broadband network. This new service caters to the needs of the providers by offering them unrestricted, prioritized, multimegabit service with unfettered access to all Internet applications and protocols, including streaming media formats, popular Voice over IP (VoIP) services like Skype (News - Alert), and rich media websites.
