Infinera DTN-X with Instant Bandwidth Chosen by KDDI

By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor

KDDI (News - Alert) Corporation has chosen Infinera DTN-X platform with Instant Bandwidth in order to enhance the Miyazaki–Okinawa Cable network in Japan. The Infinera deal was carried out by KDDI through its local associate Nissho Electronics. A sturdy network capable of offering multi-Terabit optical transmission will be available as a result of this enhancement. KDDI will therefore be able to offer 100 Gigabit per second or Gb/s services nationwide.

The Miyazaki–Okinawa Cable is an autonomous cable system which is connected to the 10,300 km long Japan Information Highway cable system. This system is owned and operated by Japan’s incorporated telecommunications provider, KDDI. Due to the implementation of the Infinera (News - Alert) DTN-X on this network, service providers will now be able to offer 100 GB/s services in a rapid and proficient manner when required.

In a statement, Shigeto Kiritani, General Manager and Head of International Network Department at KDDI said, “The DTN-X provides us with an industry leading 100G transport solution that differentiates us in the marketplace. By deploying the DTN-X we can rapidly increase the capacity of our system while enabling a robust network that is scalable and efficient. With Infinera’s Instant Bandwidth feature on the DTN-X, we are able to activate 100G services instantly on an as-needed basis.”

For the first time, 500 GB/s long-haul super-channels based on Photonic Integrated Circuits and FlexCoherent Processor (News - Alert) are offered by Infinera. Service providers are offered an innovative service model by Infinera’s Instant Bandwidth, a unique software-activated 100G bandwidth delivery offering. Using this service model, service providers can implement 100G capacity immediately after they activate the customer services. Service providers can successfully administer revenue generating services using Infinera’s DTN-X, which incorporates 5 Tb/s of OTN switching with a smart control plane.

Andrew Bond-Webster, vice president, APAC Sales at Infinera said, “Infinera is committed to offering the most innovative optical transport solutions globally. We are pleased that KDDI has selected the DTN-X on this critical network. The DTN-X provides simple operations, scalable super-channel bandwidth and efficient network utilization. Infinera’s unique Instant Bandwidth is a key feature that helps our customers, like KDDI; win in the marketplace by delivering services faster than their competitors."
