Comtech Xicom Technology Receives $1.1 Million Order for Satellite Power Amplifiers

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

Comtech Xicom (News - Alert) Technology, Inc , a subsidiary of Comtech Telecommunications Corp. and a satellite communications (satcom) amplifier supplier, has secured an order for $1.1 million for the company’s 500-Watt, continuous wave (CW), high-power amplifiers for high throughput satellite (HTS) services operating in the Ka-band frequency.

“Satellite networks are ideal for providing high-capacity internet connectivity to remote portions for the globe. We continue to see strong demand for Comtech Xicom’s leading-edge SATCOM products as the Ka-band HTS market expands globally,” said Fred Kornberg (News - Alert), president and chief executive officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp., in a statement.

“We are pleased that customers appreciate the performance and value of Comtech Xicom’s amplifiers to fulfill their ongoing HTS system needs,” said Kornberg.

Officials with Comtech Xicom said that the company’s power amplifiers are designed for reliability and superior technical performance. These 500-Watt amplifiers feature the highest combination of CW output power and bandwidth in Ka-band available in the industry today.

The company’s products are available in rack-mount configurations as well as for outdoor applications.

TMCnet recently reported that Comtech EF Data (News - Alert) Corp., a subsidiary of Comtech Telecommunications Corp. and a major player in satellite bandwidth efficiency and link optimization, has been awarded a $6.5-million buying agreement from Harris Corporation (News - Alert).

As part of the pact, Harris, an international communications and information technology company serving government and commercial markets in more than 150 countries, will purchase Comtech EF Data ground equipment to support the satellite network upgrade of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Alaskan Satellite Telecommunications Infrastructure (ASTI) program.

As the prime contractor for the ASTI program, Harris will replace and upgrade the existing satcom network that links the Alaskan Air Route Traffic Control Center in Anchorage with 64 FAA facilities throughout the region.

Officials with Comtech EF Data said the agreement also encompasses a range of the company’s ground equipment, including the CDM-625 Advanced Satellite Modem with DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier, redundancy switches, and RF products for indoor and outdoor environments.
