Cellular phones are everywhere, but their signals don't necessarily reach everywhere. This is often an issue in mountains and other hard to reach places that are frequented by outdoor enthusiasts.
In an attempt to help outdoor enthusiasts, who often find themselves without cell phone service, SPOT LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Globalstar (News - Alert), Inc, has announced the introduction of SPOT Global Phone.
SPOT Global Phone is a data enabled satellite phone, which will be useful for outdoor enthusiasts like hunters, hikers, boaters, and off-road travelers. Packed in a compact size of 5.3"H x 2.2" W x 1.5"D, and equipped with a long-life battery of 36 hours standby (4 hours talk time), this phone is ideal for the people on the go.
The phone has the capacity to allow email and file transfers. It also comes with a rapid online activation process, along with ten-digit dialing for local phone numbers. It provides enhanced voice clarity without any considerable delay or echo, and it features a lighted keypad for use at night or in poorly lit conditions.
SPOT LLC has always been a provider of technology allowing users to communicate with their loved ones even where cell signals are not available. SPOT Connect helps users to pair their smartphone with SPOT Connect, and get connected to a global satellite network and send message and GPS coordinates.
"Outdoor recreationists have come to appreciate SPOT as a brand that keeps them safe as they explore new ways of getting off the grid," said Jay Monroe, chief executive officer, Globalstar. "As the first satellite phone available in major retail outlets such as West Marine, REI and Cabela's, SPOT Global Phone (News - Alert) will not only provide a lifeline during these adventures, but an opportunity to connect with impeccably clear voice quality on a satellite network that is light years ahead of the competition."
Recently, the company was selected by Nupoint Systems to expand its M2M data communication service offerings.
