Symmetricom Enhances Q-Advisor And A High-Density Platform

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

Symmetricom, Inc. has announced key enhancements to Q-Advisor, its Network Operations Center, or “NOC (News - Alert),” management software for its V-Factor Quality of Experience, or “QoE,” monitoring platform. The synchronization systems from Symmetricom include primary reference sources, building integrated timing supplies, GPS timing receivers, time and frequency distribution systems, network time servers and ruggedized oscillators.

The advanced reporting capabilities will enable video monitoring operators to prioritize specific troubleshooting actions and manage high impact outages. This will help to save time, money and ensure quality of service. According to Kevin Hsu, vice president of product marketing at Symmetricom (News - Alert), Q-Advisor provides a critical tool to ensure better video quality at the source where it can be controlled. At the same time, it will reduce the monitoring equipment footprint and power usage.

Q-Advisor offers service providers a web-based system for configuration, management, collection and reporting of data from any probe belonging to the V-Factor QoE Platform.

Additionally, Q-Advisor aggregates quality information from across the network to provide end-to-end visibility, service monitoring and problem reporting. Q-Advisor management system collects information from all headend, network and other V-Factor-enabled devices and correlates results into simple quality scores.

New reporting capabilities include a per-channel, time-based view of quality levels as well as a top-10 video service impairments report. These features help prioritize troubleshooting actions and save time in addressing and resolving video quality impairments. In addition, enhanced graphical elements enable technicians to rapidly identify trends and patterns in reported IP distribution issues.

Symmetricom has also announced an enhanced, high-density platform for the Q-1200 Headend Analyzer. This high-density platform will extend scalability for video content monitoring and enable operators to save valuable rack space and power consumption. The Q-1200 is an automated, efficient solution for monitoring video content in the headend. It examines the quality and integrity of source video and detects transcoding and encoding impairments. With the new platform, the Q-1200 will monitor more than double the number of channels – 8HD/32SD - MPEG-2 – in the same rack mounted footprint, or “2U,” with equivalent power consumption.

The updated Q-Advisor and the enhanced, high-density platform for Q-1200 will be available in November. A leader in precise time and frequency products and services, Symmetricom offers comprehensive, unprecedented end-to-end monitoring solutions with headend analyzers, network probes and advanced video management and reporting software.
