Telespazio Renews Satellite Contracts with Eutelsat

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

As television companies struggle to keep pace with the demands of an increasingly demanding customer, new partnerships are being chalked out to improve the level of service provided.

Recently, Telespazio (News - Alert), a satellite services company from Italy, renewed leases on two satellites operated by Eutelsat Communications. This will help Telespazio offer professional video contribution services and the outside broadcast purposes of RAI, the country's national public broadcaster.

Eutelsat (News - Alert) has three main control centers, dedicated to the satellites and their traffic. They include Satellite Control Centre, Communications System Control Centre (CSC (News - Alert)), and Eutelsat Multimedia Platform. These centers operate around the clock.

Eutelsat's ATLANTIC BIRD 1 and W3A satellites will now be available to Telespazio on a multi-year basis. Apart from supporting RAI's ongoing requirements for a constant flow of coverage of news, sports and special events, both satellites provide superior coverage of Italy for domestic newsgathering requirements. Now RAI can manage short news items broadcast in Standard Digital, as well as premium events in HD that require 42 Mbps carriers.

'We are delighted that Telespazio and RAI are renewing their confidence in Eutelsat with the extension of capacity on ATLANTIC BIRD 1 and W3A,” Olivier Millies-Lacroix, Eutelsat Commercial Director said. “Satellites are firmly anchored as a key platform for instant and quality coverage of news and sports events, providing both reach and bandwidth availability for efficient delivery of broadcast quality content.”

Telespazio, is a joint venture between Finmeccanica at 67 percent and Thales at 33 percent, and offers satellite management services, Earth observation and satellite navigation, as well as in the field of integrated communications and scientific programs.

Recently, Eutelsat renewed its relationship with Tring Communications, a subsidiary of Albanian Satellite Communications, or “ASC (News - Alert),” and one of the television and telecommunications service providers in Albania. Tring Communications selection of the Tooway broadband service enables the company to deliver broadband across Albania, notably to homes and businesses in areas beyond range of its terrestrial infrastructure.
