Retarus Chooses Sonus Session Border Controllers to Deliver Fax Communications

Retarus just announced they have chosen Sonus Networks, Inc. to help them take advantage of the ever growing demand for cloud services. Specifically, Sonus Networks Inc., a provider of Session Initiation Protocol (News - Alert) (SIP) communications, will provide Retarus with its session border controllers (SBCs).

With the announcement, Retarus has the opportunity to grow their immediate and future business. It allows Retarus to protect their legacy investment and deliver new Internet Protocol (IP)-based services in the future.

Fax remains one of the top communication methods in the world today. Retarus, which handles more than half a billion fax transaction per year, chose Sonus SBCs to handle them specifically. Retarus currently has 3,500 customers worldwide and the partnership with Sonus will enable greater flexibility without risking its reliability and quality reputation as well as give them the ability to expand its international business even further.

"The Sonus solution enabled Retarus to widen our product and service range by increasing the international footprint of our services," said Florian Korhammer, vice president, technology & operations at Retarus. "By providing our customers with higher capacity and increased redundancy, we believe that the capabilities enabled by Sonus will strengthen Retarus' position in the fax communication market."

Normally communications done through fax need to be exact copies and even though SIP simplifies communications, challenges can arise due to the many variations of SIP across carrier networks. Sonus’ SBCs, Sonus SBC 5200 and the Sonus SBC 9000, have the capability to normalize the different versions of SIP running across the networks giving Retarus the confidence its services will not be compromised.

Sonus has customers in over 50 countries worldwide, and the new SBCs, which have been designed with built-in media transcoding features and protection against network attacks and overload and outages, gives customers the assurance they need.

"The Sonus SBC portfolio is purpose-built for the most demanding network requirements so customers can have peace of mind that their selection is a good one," said Serge Adam, vice president, EMEA, at Sonus.
