TMCnet Session Border Controller Week in Review

As temperatures are rapidly cooling off across the northern part of the United States, things are heating up in the session border controller space. There were a number of big stories this week about saving money with IP communications, predicting the future of the marketplace and more.

Let’s take a look at some of the top stories.

First came a report regarding CAPEX and communications service providers. The report, issued by the International Data Corporation, included eight top companies including ZTE (News - Alert), Huawei, Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent and Ericsson. It showed that the firms cut CAPEX by a significant amount, saving over $100 billion in the process. Generally speaking, the companies focused on maintenance and minor upgrades rather than rolling out significant capital expenditures. This trend may not hold, however, as most of these companies are expected to engage in major pushes to bring LTE (News - Alert) services to the market in the near future.

Also this week, many companies are gearing up to attend ITEXPO Miami 2013 next week. The event will bring together thought leaders in the technology and communications space for a week of keynotes, panels, networking and more. One company that will be in attendance is GLOBALINX, and the director of sales from that company, Kevin Bartnicki, recently shared his thoughts on the major trends in the space. He sees cloud computing as a major trend, of course, and feels that mobility is the latest and greatest game changer. He looks forward to attending ITEXPO (News - Alert) to discuss these topics and more.

Finally this week came a report that the diameter signaling controller market saw explosive growth in 2012. It grew more than 10 times as fast as it did in the previous year, and this upswing was largely credited to the growth in LTE.

There you have it – a pretty exciting week in the session border controller space. Check back here soon for more news and updates!
