In business, partnerships are extremely important. Strategic relationships between successful companies are mutually beneficial, helping increase market share, profitability and reach. The latest such partnership in the unified communications space is between session border controller expert Sonus Networks and UC expert BroadSoft (News - Alert).

The two companies are partnering to ensure full interoperability of BroadSoft’s BroadWorks, BroadCloud and BroadTouch product offerings with Sonus’ line of session border controllers for telecommunications service providers. This interoperability will help accelerate the deployment of hosted, cloud-based communications services.

The two companies will now be able to provide simplified network designs that can reduce costs by using BroadSoft’s products with session border controllers from Sonus. Service providers can offer a broad range of UC services including voice, video calling and conferencing, Web conferencing, instant messaging, presence and more.

“BroadSoft is a well-established leader in helping service providers create and monetize new services and capabilities,” Ray Dolan, president and CEO of Sonus, said in a statement. “Together, Sonus and BroadSoft products offer a pathway for service providers to leverage their investments as they seek to add new features and capabilities in a manner that is easy to use, simple to manage and affordable to deploy.”

The two companies will work together to deliver integrated, fully tested and secure unified communications, SIP trunking and interworking network components. They will coordinate sales and go-to-market activities and serve customers through coordinated solutions sales, testing and documentation.

Together, Sonus and BroadSoft hope to position themselves at the front of the UC market. Forrester (News - Alert) Research expects the market for collaboration services delivered via the cloud to be worth $22 billion by 2018, and a recent survey found that more and more UC deployments are moving toward the cloud. The alliance between these two companies should serve to strengthen each business’ position in the market.
