Houlihan Lawrence Deploys Mushroom Networks' Truffle to Cut Telecom Cost

Real estate companies and agents heavily depend on telecom networks to communicate with perspective customers and pursue leads. Any disruption and gap in communication can significantly damage business.

Houlihan Lawrence, a New York-based real estate broker, has deployed Mushroom Networks' Truffle (News - Alert) appliances across its 25 branch offices and corporate headquarters, to implement cost-effective and time-saving telecom solutions.

Mushroom Networks is an innovator of Broadband Bonding technology.

With the deployment of Truffle appliances, Houlihan Lawrence will be able to save 50 percent of its total telecom costs and boost the speed of wide area network (WAN) 75 times faster than before.

Mushroom Networks' (News - Alert) Truffle is also helping the real estate company to create virtual leased lines (VLL) and Broadband Bonding, a technique that melds various numbers of Internet lines into a single connection.

Houlihan Lawrence has replaced its costly MPLS network and the T1 lines, and deployed Truffle WAN virtualization solution to link its branch offices to the network.

When Hurricane Sandy hit, Houlihan Lawrence's Director of IT, Andrew Lafreniere, and his team planned to install Truffle at two offices as the company's MPLS went down. It was important for Houlihan Lawrence to be operational and able to help its customers and clients with the aftermath of the storm.

Lafreniere and his team worked to bring each office back online within a week.

"Fortunately we were planning this implementation. Otherwise, we would have been down for weeks," Lafreniere said in a statement. "In addition to the benefits of low cost and speed, the diversified connections to multiple providers that the Truffle appliances enable allow for unattended failover. In the event that one of the connections goes down, the branches stay up without any intervention on our end."
