As IP communication technology has become more and more prevalent in business, people have learned about the necessity for session border controllers in their VoIP and UC deployments. It seems that each and every week there is a great deal of news in the session border controller space, and this week was no different. Let’s check out some of the top stories from the past few days.

First came the news that the Westcon Group was the first value-added distributor (VAD) in the world to achieve Microsoft’s (News - Alert) Partner Network Gold Communications Competency. Westcon is a VAD for unified communications, network infrastructure, data center and security solutions, working with resellers around the globe. "Being the first VAD worldwide to achieve Gold Communications certification is a tremendous achievement for our EMEA business -- and testament to Westcon's commitment to Microsoft and its Lync solutions," said Guy Koster, director of Microsoft Lync Business Practice EMEA, Westcon Convergence (News - Alert). "Microsoft's most recent earnings report showed its Lync business growing at 35 percent. We look forward to capitalizing on this momentum with our customers, our Lync eco-system vendors, and Microsoft to fully exploit resulting opportunities utilizing our powerful 'Simplification, Orchestration, Acceleration' messaging and partner enablement programs."

Also this week, a New York-based real estate broker, Houlihan Lawrence, deployed Mushroom Networks’ Truffle (News - Alert) appliances across its 25 branch offices and corporate headquarters in order to implement cost-effective and time-saving telecom solutions. "In addition to the benefits of low cost and speed, the diversified connections to multiple providers that the Truffle appliances enable allows for unattended failover,” said Andrew Lafreniere, director of IT at Houlihan Lawrence. “In the event that one of the connections goes down, the branches stay up without any intervention on our end."

There you have it! It’s been another exciting week in the session border controller space. Check back soon for the latest news and updates!
