Axceler Announces Release of ControlPoint 4.0 and Acquisition of echoTechnology

Axceler, the company offering administration software for Microsoft (News - Alert) SharePoint, announced that it has released the latest version of its administration product for Microsoft SharePoint 2010, ControlPoint 4.0. In addition, the company also announced the acquisition of echoTechnology to offer SharePoint migration.

The company's ControlPoint is an administrative product for Microsoft SharePoint 2010. It is tailored to provide administrators with complete control over the configuration and deployment of their SharePoint environments. It features comprehensive permissions management, in-depth activity and storage analysis as well as the ability to measure performance of SharePoint environments against governance policies.

According to a press release, the latest release 4.0 of ControlPoint will be available this month. It not only supports SharePoint 2010 but also improves administration of SharePoint 2007. With this release, the company's commitment to releasing a SharePoint 2010 version of ControlPoint within 60 days of Microsoft's RTM of the new platform, will be fulfilled.

Some of the new features incorporated into ControlPoint 4.0 include a single code base that works on either SharePoint 2007 or 2010; the ability to manage new SharePoint 2010 features that are important when deploying/upgrading to 2010, such as managing the Visual Upgrade options on the new SharePoint 2010 user interface and reporting on configured services and databases across multiple SharePoint 2010 farms; and new capabilities that bloat the already existing feature set for managing SharePoint permissions.

"As enterprise customers get ready for SharePoint 2010, they will increasingly turn to ControlPoint 4.0 for the powerful capabilities that make administration of the latest SharePoint platform easier and more efficient," said Michael Alden, president and CEO, Axceler (News - Alert). 'Customers favor ControlPoint's scalability, ease-of-use and support for distributed site admins, and now with ControlPoint 4.0, we're bringing those benefits for SharePoint administration to Microsoft's latest platform."

Company official said in the release that administration of SharePoint is not enough. Migration software for SharePoint is also important. Both administration and migration are required for management of new SharePoint 2010 platform.

In this regard, Axceler acquired echoTechnology, a provider of SharePoint migration solutions, in order to address two of the most critical areas of SharePoint management -- administration and migration. Both are required to assist during migration to the new SharePoint 2010 platform.

According to a press release posted on TMCnet, Axceler's echoTechnology products reduce the time and costs associated with moving to the latest versions of SharePoint while avoiding data loss and downtime. These products ensure that migration will be reliable, secure and cost effective.

Apart from release of ControlPoint 4.0 and acquisition of echoTechnology, the company also announced the release of Davinci Migrator for SharePoint 2010, which will enable administrators to manage the taxonomy, content, configurations, security settings, and the entire change management process. Davinci Migrator will be available in early Q3, said company officials.
