MetaVis Technologies, Inc., a major player in SharePoint migration, has announced that the MetaVis Suite now supports SharePoint 2010 Term Stores and Document Sets.
Company officials said that by supporting specific SharePoint 2010 features, MetaVis makes it easier for users to take full advantage of the SharePoint 2010 functionality and plan and/or execute a 2010 migration strategy.
"MetaVis support for SharePoint 2010 specific features such as Term Store-based metadata and Content Types were instrumental in our migration," said Will Nourse, chief technology officer, Citizen Schools.
“It enabled us to more efficiently and easily populate the content as we made our move to 2010”, said Nourse.
Nourse also said that support for SharePoint 2010 Document Sets enabled to save time, as Citizen Schools could use MetaVis Migrator's intuitive and simple interface to organize content, rather than requiring to use Internet Explorer's connection to SharePoint.
One of the most powerful features in SharePoint 2010 is Managed Metadata Columns which includes term stores. Using this new feature, users can define and manage taxonomy structures.
According to company officials, the Term Store Manager in the MetaVis Suite allows users to browse SharePoint 2010 term stores and copy term hierarchies, term sets or entire groups of terms between SharePoint servers.
Company also officials said that it also allows users to reorganize terms. This dramatically simplifies the maintenance of term sets across multiple SharePoint 2010 server farms and the ability to organize them.
"MetaVis is committed to helping users take advantage of SharePoint 2010 metadata features," said Steven Pogrebivsky, CEO and co-founder of MetaVis Technologies.
Pogrebivsky said that this makes it easier for users to organize and reorganize their SharePoint sites as taxonomy structures evolve and change over time.
In addition, enabling users to keep SharePoint organized makes governance easier to manage while improving SharePoint search and overall usage.
New in SharePoint 2010 is support for Document Sets. This allows a group of related documents to be versioned or sent through workflow processes as a single piece of content.
Company officials said that MetaVis now supports Document Sets in SharePoint 2010 sites as any other native SharePoint object allowing users to copy Document Sets between SharePoint 2010 sites.
This makes it easy to copy data using specific SharePoint 2010 features between SharePoint 2010 sites.
"SharePoint 2010 beta users quickly adopted the Document Sets feature but could not copy them between 2010 sites," said Peter Senescu, president and co-founder of MetaVis Technologies.
Senescu said that the company saw a demand for this functionality to help SharePoint users not only migrate to 2010 more easily but also in the ongoing management of 2010 sites.
