SIP End Points: Vidyo Announces HD Multipoint Video Conferencing App for Android Devices

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Vidyo (News - Alert), a provider of video conferencing and telepresence, announced the availability of VidyoMobile on the Android Market. Vidyo already offers VidyoMobile to leading iOS devices including iPads, iPhones, laptops, desktops, telepresence and HD room systems (including interoperability with Polycom, Cisco/Tandberg (News - Alert) and other H.323 and SIP end points).

The new VidyoMobile application allows Vidyo's enterprise customers to seamlessly offer mobile workers the ability to participate in company video conferences from select Android (News - Alert) mobile devices, company officials said.

"With VidyoMobile now available on both Android and iOS devices, employees are able to join video conferences with other mobile endpoints, desktops, room systems or laptops from anywhere, at any time and from the tablets and smart phones they already love and own,” said Ofer Shapiro (News - Alert), CEO and co-founder of Vidyo, in a statement.

The video conferencing solution delivers up to 720p HD resolution and includes shared content viewing capability, which proves that users don't have to restrict themselves to audio-only calls when they’re on the go anymore, Shapiro added.

"Enabling businesses to be competitive in a world that is going more mobile every day is key in the video collaboration industry and Vidyo is proud to lead the enterprise mobile video conferencing space," Shapiro added.

VidyoMobile runs on most ARMv7-based Android devices running v2.2 through v3.1 with support for v4.0 coming soon. The solution is currently used in the U.S, Europe, Asia, South America, Australia and Canada, and can be downloaded today from the Android Market.

Using VidyoMobile-enabled devices, anyone can participate in conferences with more than 100 participants – displaying up to four participants at a time on tablets. The solution provides the user with the ability to customize the view and select shared presentation materials. Participants are displayed using the active speaker feature, which automatically displays the current and last few speakers.

In other industry news, according to SIP Phones leader Panasonic (News - Alert), in January, the company will be unveiling its KX-UT670, the company’s first SIP open source operating desk phone.

“The goal for us in launching this phone is twofold: it’s about creating a new device that is going to enable a business user to be more productive and have better use of their time, but it’s also vertical focused in trying to enable specific verticals, whether it’s security or education, to have a full integrated Panasonic solution,” Kim Murtagh, product manager of SIP End Points at Panasonic, told TMCnet. “We are really trying to move forward as a company and show the benefits of using multiple Panasonic products as an overall solution.”
