TMCnet SIP Phones Week in Review

By Ashok Bindra, TMCnet Contributor

While new products continued to emerge in the SIP marketplace this past week, TMCnet Web editor Carrie Schmelkin provided some insight into the cutting edge telephony solution in her column. Likewise, another vendor offered software for stress testing and precise analysis of VoIP network equipment. And video conferencing solutions provider Vidyo (News - Alert) announced achieving the Joint Interoperability Test Command's (JITC) certification from Department of Defense (DoD) for its Vidyo Conferencing suite.

Contributing writer, Monica Gleberman reported that this week at the International Telecoms Week Conference, Vitelity Communications launched a new communications bundle called SIP Enable. To develop this new solution, the VoIP provider partnered with Patton (News - Alert) Electronics

The report quoted Vitelity CEO, Chris Hall as saying, “It’s exciting to be able to bring our SIP trunking service to systems that it was never intended for.” “We’re ultimately improving the functionalist for the end-user and providing a cost-effective way to integrate this new technology into older systems,” noted Hall.

According to the  report, SIP Enable will work with phone systems that did not initially come with SIP capabilities. And helps to integrate next-generation technology such as SMS, vFax, and global DID origination into older systems. The aim is to give customers with newer technology phones more functionality, according to Gleberman’s report.

For those who are planning to replace old outdated landline models with the latest telephony solution, then SIP is the way to go. According to Web editor Schmelkin, millions in the industry are bringing SIP communications into their businesses and homes. The column highlighted key benefits of SIP, which include noise reduction, lower power consumption, HD voice capability, and multi-year warranties. Plus, with reduced hardware, they offer cost savings, call transfer and 8DID ring tone.

In fact, wrote Schmelkin, “SIP phones have become the perfect mobility solution for small business and home offices.” And Panasonic (News - Alert) is ready to help facilitate that move. Panasonic continues to expand the Sip portfolio to address the needs of a variety of consumers.

TMCnet contributor, Ed Silverstein reported that GL Communications (News - Alert) is now selling its PacketGen-SIP bulk call generator software, which is crafted to test and analyze VoIP network equipment. Plus, according to the maker, it can also support some 1,000 calls simultaneously.

Jagdish Vadalia, senior manager at GL Communications said, “PacketGen is a PC-based real-time VoIP bulk call generator for stress testing and precise analysis of VoIP network equipment.

Silverstein’s report indicates that PacketGen-SIP can be used for varied applications. These include generation of manual and bulk calls, matrix testing, protocol compliance and codec compatibility testing, regression and acceptance testing, stress testing, and voice quality analysis.

Lastly, TMCnet contributor, Rajani Baburajan reported on Vidyo receiving JITC certification from Department of Defense (DoD) for its Vidyo Conferencing suite. With JITC certification, Vidyo becomes the first software-based, telepresence-quality (720p30) desktop video conferencing solution to be JITC certified, wrote Baburajan.  After achieving the Defense Switch Network (DSN) and IPv6 interoperability requirements, these products now appear on the DoD Unified Capabilities Approved Products List (UC APL), reported Baburajan.
