TMCnet's SIP Phones Week in Review

By Monica Gleberman, Contributing Writer

SIP (the session initiation protocol) is an IETF-defined signaling protocol, widely used for controlling communications sessions for both voice and audio over the Internet. The protocol can be used to create, modify and terminate two-party or even multi-party sessions. Companies began using SIP for phone/audio services when they began to see the cost-saving benefits, the capacity of the phone system and the reliability it offers.

This week, IntelePeer teamed up with Microsoft (News - Alert) Gold Partner Conquest Technology Services to provide a new unified communication solution to customers who use Microsoft Lync. Allison Boccamazzo, a TMCnet Web Editor, reported on the new collaboration saying that this new UC solution will allow customers to test out the service for a 30-day trial period.

“The ‘Lync Experience Voice Now,’ which offers complimentary service and UC headsets for up to 10 users, making it simple and easy for business owners to experience Lync personally,” said Boccamazzo referring to the 30-day free trial. “The pilot service will be both offered and managed by Conquest, featuring IntelePeer’s (News - Alert) CoreCloud SIP trunking to provide carrier-services and public switched telephone network (PSTN) access.”

Founder and VP of Professional Services at Conquest Technology Services, Ben Tosado, said he is looking forward to this collaboration and wants new businesses to give it a chance.

Another company, West IP Communications (News - Alert), announced that it, too, has been working with Microsoft Lync and is proud to announce it is now compatible with Microsoft Lync 2010. The cloud-based IP communication applications and services company said its MaxxConnect SIP Trunking services are now certified, according to TMCnet Contributor, Rajani Baburajan.

“The certification of MaxxConnect SIP trunking with Lync allows West IP Communications ultimately provides a greater variety of IP communications solutions to clients,” Baburajan said. “MaxxConnect services offered through Microsoft Lync platform offer voice capabilities with flexible trunking options, which also feature built-in continuity tools to help deliver maximum up-time. The solution additionally helps enterprises run efficiently, scale easily and become flexible in their day-to-day operations.”

Robert wise, executive vice president of West IP Communications, released a statement saying, “Our MaxxConnect IP trunking solutions are an important part in many clients’ migrations to cloud-based Microsoft applications and services and away from on-premises PBX (News - Alert) systems.”
