TMCnet SIP Phones Week in Review

By Allison Boccamazzo, Content Producer

SIP phones serve as a more flexible, expandable and reliable way to deploy users’ SIP-based telephony. The benefits of SIP are plenty, and are especially compelling in today’s business environment – and economy – where every dollar holds its value. A SIP phone system is a perfect and simple solution for small businesses or even larger SIP endpoint deployments.

This week in SIP phone news, it was revealed that 4PSA, a software company building social unified communications (UC), automation and infrastructure management software platforms for the cloud, had showcased its latest UC solution this week at ITEXPO (News - Alert) Austin 2012, the world’s largest technology and communications event.

The solution – VoipNow3 Service Provider Edition – was designed for highly demanding service provider environments. With built-in automation, this solution implements a new service architecture that can be easily managed in VoipNow’s cloud management Web interface. This new solution also brings together all communication flows for simplified work and increased productivity. Furthermore, service providers can use this new software on their infrastructure or use Cloud OnDemand to utilize the company’s cloud services. By offering powerful Web, desktop and mobile apps as well as Amazon S3 storage space, VoipNow 3 enables users to offload infrastructure from storing the highly demanding resources, such as recordings, voicemails and faxes.

In other news this week, Skullcandy, a popular maker of headphones, earphones and hands-free devices, revealed that it’s turning to Level 3’s SIP solutions for improved network efficiency. By relying on Level 3, Skullcandy will be able to improve communication among its core business locations of North America and China. Additionally, Level 3 will offer Skullcandy a global IP virtual private network (VPN), as well as enterprise-class metro and wide-area network services over a private, dedicated Multi-Protocol Label Switching infrastructure.

"We're relying on Level 3 to provide a rock-solid, high-performance international data infrastructure," statement, Brent Allen, Skullcandy's senior technology manager, said in a statement. "Level 3's network and SIP solutions have improved the consistency and reliability of our communications. We now have the peace of mind of knowing that our communications network and our SIP-based phone systems are high quality, cost-efficient and dependable.”

Wrapping up this week is news of RingByName, a leading Software-as-a-Service (SaaS (News - Alert)) developer and UC service provider, launching its new North American value-added reseller (VAR) program. This new reveal will work to provide small- to medium-sized technology resellers a head start in the rapidly growing market of cloud services.

Designed to elevate channel partners with the most up-to-date technical tools, training and go-to market resources necessary to build and grow a managed service business around the company’s turn-key, cloud-based communications solution, this new program will ultimately bring resellers the competitive edge they crave and need to maintain successful. “RingByName gives businesses everything they need, positioning our partners to win more deals by offering the very best solution complete with industry leading SIP phones, robust communication features and unlimited calling in the U.S. and Canada all for one low monthly charge with no hidden fees,” said Kent Terpe, director of Channels & Alliances, RingByName.
