IntelePeer Reveals New CoreCloud UC SIP Trunking 3.0 Service

By Allison Boccamazzo, Content Producer

In light of the constant advancements made in the technological field of session initiation protocol (SIP) and unified communications (UC), Intelepeer, Inc., an esteemed provider of on-demand, cloud-based communications, has today revealed its newest SIP trunking service for unified communications (UC) systems – CoreCloud UC SIP Trunking 3.0. This major update to the company’s suite of SIP trunking services combines best-of-breed voice quality in HD audio with the high strength protection of four kilobyte, public key encryption to SIP trunk security.

By integrating Transport Layer Security (TLS) and Secure Real-Time Transport Protocol (SRTP) encryption, signaling and multimedia content are fully protected to ensure both the privacy and integrity of communications media. By advancing its security options, enterprises can reduce costs normally associated with dedicated data access, such as T1 circuit or MPLS network for their SIP trunking connections. This in turn enables them to securely route communications over their existing corporate data connections.

I was able to speak with Charles Studt (News - Alert), VP of Product Management at IntelePeer, who explained that by adding this industry-leading and strong security, the company is ultimately validating that the cloud is ready for prime-time and is able to be secured. Not only this, but Studt added that the company also made some significant changes to the way in which it packages and bundles its service offerings to help channel partners and distributors resell them and for customers to buy and consume them.

“One of the opportunities that we’ve seen as communications infrastructure moves to cloud is leveraging public Internet as the data connectivity piece for SIP trunking. We have a large percentage of our customers who have migrated to public IP as their data path for SIP trunking, but one of the challenges there is how you then encrypt and protect the media, particularly if you’re security sensitive,” Studt continued.

The answer to this is TLS and SRTP, which enables you to encrypt media and call signaling information. In fact, this technology is so powerful that it has allowed the company to deploy some of the industry’s strongest encryption in being able to power that media path through the SIP trunk to be secured. Even more, Intelepeer is the first service provider in the U.S. market to get Microsoft (News - Alert) Lync qualification for this type of service. Not only is it Microsoft Lync certified, but CoreCloud UC SIP Trunking 3.0 is also certified for all major hosted and on-premise UC platforms.

“This is really making the cloud a viable delivery mechanism for the communications connectivity piece and being able to do it in a secure way,” Studt concluded.
