Australian customers have been looking for affordable quality phones, and they seem to have found that in the National Broadband Network (News - Alert) (NBN). Although it’s still relatively new, with a full rollout aiming at a 2020 completion, it already has over 24,000 customers with millions of premises to be connected in the coming years.

Furthermore, NBN is clearing the way for cloud services such as Internet telephony. VoIP channels will be able to benefit from the speed and accessibility of NBN, with adoption in residential and business markets increasing at a steady rate.

Not only that, but those using NBN and VoIP services are not who one would normally expect. Retirees and baby boomers are taking advantage of NBN to get better services at more affordable prices, even if they scarcely use the Internet.

NBN’s online portal makes it easy for users to change their settings, while the various porting capabilities let users keep their previous numbers. Users can pick their own packages according to their needs, so they’re not paying for unnecessary services, such as download speeds they’re not using.

There’s a particular need for NBN and other such services, as copper lines are slowly being phased out. Many areas in Australia will begin removing copper wires completely in a year and a half from now, with more to follow as it progresses. As that happens, services such as NBN will be in even higher demand, helping facilitate their adoption. As such, it’s a good sign that many who would normally be adverse to “new-fangled technology these days” are starting to take advantage of NBN, as it will make the change all the better, and speaks for the ease of use that NBN offers.
