TMCnet SIP Phones Week in Review

By Allison Boccamazzo, Content Producer

SIP phones serve as a more flexible, expandable and reliable way to deploy users’ SIP-based telephony. The benefits of SIP are plenty, and are especially compelling in today’s business environment – and economy – where every dollar holds its value. A SIP phone system is a perfect and simple solution for small businesses or even larger SIP endpoint deployments.

This week, we saw some heavy news in the tough technology space, specifically regarding some tough VoIP phones and Panasonic’s well-known toughbooks and new toughpads. Panasonic’s toughpads – showcased at this year’s recent CES (News - Alert) – come in two convenient sizes of 10 and seven inches, and are both Android-powered devices. Considering Panasonic’s popularity in this space, these two newest additions should be very welcome ones.

Another new addition in this market is Elektrobit’s (News - Alert) new Tough VoIP phone, which was specifically premiered as a VoIP solution for industrial markets. This new development will be utilized in such environments as power plants, mining operations and other manufacturing sites, TMC (News - Alert) reported this week, adding that it underwent strenuous testing before it was released for public use. This new Tough VoIP phone is SIP-based as well, which allows for it to be interoperable with other SIP clients and server functions, the report notes.

Also this week, Panasonic divulged some show-winning secrets from this year’s CES – specifically, how it was able to captivate customers and attendees to its booth. The first step to securing a successful experience at such a highly anticipated show starts with how you present yourself. In order to do so, the company partnered with VER, a national AV, audio, broadcast and computer equipment rental company, to perfectly showcase its new technology offerings.

“VER recently purchased a large amount of new Panasonic LFV50 LED professional video wall displays. Twenty-five of these 55” displays were daisy-chained together and hung high above our booth where they showed crisp, bright video highlighting our consumer division’s new line of plasma Viera displays,” Panasonic divulged in a recent blog.

And rounding out the week is news of some more robust, enhanced SMB solutions from Panasonic. Panasonic already touts impressive SIP phone solutions for the SMB, and this week, it revealed its new high-speed, reliable personal document scanners. With this new addition, the company only further cements its world leadership in SMB business solutions.

The all-new KV-S1026C and KV-S1015C personal workgroup document scanners are ideal for any SMB looking to achieve a paperless office or digital filing system, the company explained. “We really like the scanner’s features, size and sturdiness and think our small and medium business customers will too,” said Kevin Smith, president and CEO of One Source Document Solutions, a Panasonic reseller and provider of enterprise document management and workflow automation solutions.

These scanners serve as the perfect solution for the SMB looking to not take up too much space in the office but keep their wallets full. “Many of our customers have a need for a high-quality document scanner, but are limited by space constraints and budgets,” added Bill Savino, marketing manager for business communication and document/imaging solutions at Panasonic System Communications Company of North America.

That’s going to do it this week here for the SIP Phones community. To see the latest in the SIP Phone (News - Alert) space next week, be sure to check back same time, same place – only here at TMCnet!
