Brightstar Reaches Stock Purchase Agreement to Acquire OTBT

By Vinti Vaid, TMCnet Contributor

Brightstar Corp., an innovative global services company that provides services, solutions and value-added distribution that enhance the performance and profitability of device manufacturers, network operators and retailers in the telecommunications industry, recently announced a stock purchase agreement to acquire OTBT, Inc., the first wireless telecommunications distributor focused on providing the value-added reseller and systems integration channel with a single source for all wireless devices, services and software.

After completion, the acquisition will enable Brightstar (News - Alert) to offer a customized and centralized platform to manage all facets of wireless device activation and services, as well as business implementation tools for operators to value-added resellers (VARs).

At first, Brightstar will concentrate on helping VARs and their business customers with the activation as well as the renewal process.

Marcelo Claure, the chairman, president and CEO of Brightstar, stated in a press release, “VARS have traditionally faced a complex challenge when attempting to sell wireless solutions to businesses. Operators are also searching for a simple, time-efficient process to work directly with the IT reseller segment.” Claure added, “Brightstar has simplified that process by using OTBT's proprietary solution. It enables VARs to sell wireless airtime and software to their customers in much the same way they would sell a printer cartridge today.”

OTBT’s acquisition works as a core component of the Enterprise Services of Brightstar. It offers VARs an easy way of bringing a host of active devices and mobility software to small and medium businesses, enterprises, and governments. This provides the ability to correctly procure, track and manage numerous carrier mobility sales and creates a SKU together with a MSRP for each wireless service.

The proprietary billing and activation platform of OTBT deals with the pain point that VARs go through when they try to manage their airtime customers. Also, Brightstar will be able to provide software, data devices, hardware, accessories, billing management, asset management, training services, technical support, and installation services to US-based VARs.

Recently in the news, Brightstar announced it expansion and its growing presence in the Southern parts of the US as it opens its new operation center in Miami.
