Aastra Telecom (News - Alert), a provider of traditional and VoIP
communication products and systems, and Zultys Technologies (News - Alert), a pure SIP-based communications solutions for SMBs, have announced a strategic original equipment manufacturing (OEM) arrangement.
This arrangement is expected to successfully demonstrate full interoperability between Aastra's 5i series and Zultys' line of Media eXchange servers, the MX250 and MX30 systems.
"In Zultys, we are delighted to find a SIP PBX
partner that shares our core underlying philosophy that open standards should afford customers an easy-to-use, cost-effective communications solution that offers the maximum flexibility," says John Drolet, Vice President of Sales at Aastra Telecom USA, in a Thursday statement.
Considered a milestone, this arrangement represents the successful conclusion of extensive validation testing that involves the Aastra 5i Series, consisting of a line of advanced SIP-based desktop and wireless telephones and expansion modules, including:
- 51i - Entry level single line set with 3 line/16 character display and 9 configurable speed dial keys using the number keypad

When the Aastra 5i series solutions are paired with the latest build of Zultys’ MX software, a robust combination is created to provide enterprise and SMB customers with the added flexibility to choose from a wide range of open standards-based IP
desktop and wireless solutions.
MX software is designed to tightly integrate a suite of predefined critical features, including the so-called "Four P's" – including, Paging, Parking, Pick-Up and Provisioning.
"The handsets are extraordinarily flexible and can serve as the foundation to any robust enterprise solution – whether fixed or mobile. Customers have praised their voice quality, phenomenal range and roaming
capabilities in both indoor and outdoor installations," says Van Gravlee, President of cyberjoes.com, in Thursday’s statement.
Gravlee is a Fayette, AL-based IT consultant that is both a Zultys Certified Sales Specialist (ZCSS) and a certified reseller of Aastra.
As such, Zultys will soon bring to market the following additions to its portfolio of phones: the ZIP 53i, ZIP 55i, ZIP 57i, ZIP 57i CT as well as the ZIP 536m and ZIP 560m expansion modules. The OEM arrangement dictates that these phones will be rebranded by Zultys and made available to its distributors and resellers.
"The addition of the Aastra 5i Series to our Zultys community creates a truly unique opportunity for organizations of all size migrating to pure IP or a converged IP environment,” explains Jonna Paquette, VP of Sales and Marketing at Zultys, in Thursday’s statement.
“This further reinforces our commitment to offering customers unprecedented freedom of choice in finding a solution that is perfectly suited to meet their needs."
Aastra and Zultys have entered into a strategic arrangement that not only helps to extend their brand presence and market penetration, but that also extends added value to the customer.
In doing so, both companies improve customer perception of their solutions, thereby improving their overall positioning. Gaining such a competitive edge will help to generate increased activity within the market and will likely lead to the creation of additional opportunities.
