PortaOne and MobileMax Now Support International Calling/Billing

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

PortaOne has successfully completed the interoperability testing between PortaOne's (News - Alert) PortaSwitch software-based billing and customer management platform and the MobileMax Personal Edition Mobile Client.

Traditionally, when a wireless subscriber wants to make an international call, he has to depend on the mobile operator network to do so. This results in high rates for the customers. With options such as VoIP calling available, customers naturally want economical calling options.

MobileMax (News - Alert) Personal Edition Mobile Client tries to bring down the international call rates by using a VoIP network powered by PortaSwitch. The user can place the call from his own handset and use ordinary domestic mobile phone minutes to make the call.

“While the number of mobile users worldwide continues to grow, the number of landline users is continually dropping. Mobile carriers are attempting to lock customers into an exclusive relationship for international calls," said Roman Khalenkov, sales and marketing director for PortaOne. "MobileMax Personal Edition Mobile Client allows an independent ITSP to provide international calls to mobile subscribers without entering into any cumbersome agreements with mobile carriers.”

With this new agreement between the two companies, the user can now take advantage of the VoIP call features which provide low call rates. Also, there is no need to enter any additional information as the MobileMax application supplies the user's credentials and the destination number to the PortaSwitch when the call is connected to the PortaSwitch media server.

This method allows the user to dial the international phone number or access it from his contact list. The MobileMax application intercepts the dialed international number and automatically routes the call to the domestic access number owned by the ITSP.

Currently supporting more than 500 popular handset models, the MobileMax Personal Edition Mobile Client plans to add more models in the near future.

Recently, Covergence, a provider of next generation Session Border Control solutions, has announced the successful completion of interoperability testing with PortaOne. PortaOne believes that this completion of interoperability testing with Covergence (News - Alert) has showcased the company's capabilities to offer complex and flexible solutions to customers.
