D2 Technologies Enhances vPort VoIP Software for Communication Products

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

D2 Technologies, a provider of embedded Internet Protocol (IP) communications software platforms, has launched the next generation of its vPort product line, enabling original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and service providers to cost effectively deliver mobile and customer premises equipment (CPE) communications products.

The next generation vPort 2.0 offers several advantages. It provides optimized support for developing femtocells, mobile Internet devices (MIDs) and mobile handset products.

The other unique advantage is that it offers technology upgrades that support Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX (News - Alert)), the Windows CE and Windows Mobile platforms, video calls, remote management of end-user devices via TR-069 (an application layer protocol) and Secure Real Time Transport Protocol (SRTP), and high definition audio through additional wideband codecs.

“By enhancing vPort, D2 Technologies (News - Alert) is helping customers quickly respond to the increased market demand for VoIP-enabled devices in new application areas, on new platforms and with advanced features,” said Doug Makishima, vice president of Marketing and Sales at D2 Technologies, in a statement. “We are now conducting demos with our key partners and OEM customers, and expect commercial availability of vPort 2.0 toward the end of Q1 2009.”

vPort 2.0 merges emerging technologies to deliver communication services in any mode (voice, video, instant messaging (IM) chat, email, short message services (SMS), etc.) over any network to offer connectivity platforms to service providers, general consumers and enterprise customers.

It also enables networking, signaling and voice processing functions to execute as an integrated solution on a single processor. Through this upgrade, vPort offers the broadest application support and advanced features of any embedded Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) software on the market.

vPort 2.0 allows manufacturers to quickly meet consumer demands for communications products such as Internet protocol (IP) and dual mode mobile phones, triple- and quadruple-play devices, advanced VoIP adapters/gateways and other mobile devices.

According to D2 Technologies, the next generation vPort 2.0 has several other features. It offers the broadest range of integrated circuit (IC) and core processor support for market leaders such as Cavium Networks, Freescale Semiconductor, LSI Corporation (News - Alert), Ralink Technology, AMCC, Ikanos Communications and Texas Instruments.
