Adaptive Digital Releases New VoIP Chips to Address Critical Performance Issues

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Adaptive Digital Technologies, which provides telecom and Voice over IP (VoIP) digital signal processing (DSP) software solutions and voice quality enhancing algorithms, announced the availability of its complete suite of VoIP chips, capable of addressing critical performance issues such as echo, latency and packet loss.

Built on Adaptive Digital's DSP software and Texas Instruments’ (News - Alert) (TI) high performance fixed-point TMS320C64x+ DSPs, the new VoIP chips include all of the telephony, signaling, tone and voice processing (codecs) necessary to each VoIP application, enabling equipment manufacturers to develop products quickly and cost-effectively.

“The availability of these integration-ready VoIP chips brings together a winning combination of TI's high performance silicon and Adaptive Digital's field proven high quality software,” an official statement said.

Apart from their ability to address critical performance issues, the VoIP chips also feature Adaptive Digital's AT&T (News - Alert) certified "carrier grade" G.168 Plus packet echo canceller, which can handle round-trip delays of up to 512 milliseconds coupled with a built-in awareness and handling of packet-loss, offering unparalleled quality for the VoIP service.

The new chips target various VoIP applications such as IP gateway/PBX (News - Alert), echo cancellation (EC)/Packet EC, Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM)/ International Telecommunication Union (ITU) - wireless voice transcoding, and high-density conferencing.

Each application is hosted on select TI DSPs ranging from the very low cost TMS320C6424 to cover the lower density voice applications to the high performance TMS320C6455 to cover the higher density voice applications, the company said.

The new solution is easy to integrate and is well optimized for the requirements of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and original design manufacturers (ODMs) of sophisticated voice-centric applications.

Adaptive Digital develops and licenses highly optimized DSP algorithms/solutions for telephony, audio, and video applications. It offers solutions to equipment manufacturers to customize their products by incorporating features that are not available in competing products. The company does it so by providing source code for customization.

The company is a member of the TI Developer Network, a community offering products and services based on TI analog and digital technology. The Network provides a broad range of end-equipment solutions, embedded software, engineering services and development tools.
