Accanto Optimizes VoIP, Mobile Data Services for Digicel

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

Jamaica-based Digicel reportedly has picked Accanto Systems’ Traffic Analysis and Monitoring System, an integrated network monitoring and troubleshooting solution, for its rapidly growing pan-Caribbean and central American mobile network.

TAMS will use Accanto’s “Mobile X-Ray Customer Service Assurance” platform, to optimize efficiency and service quality of mobile data services.

Both the TAMS and Mobile X-Ray platforms will allow Digicel (News - Alert) to manage its growing GSM/GPRS, CDMA, VoIP and convergent core next-generation deployments. Digicel has decided to deploy the system initially in 15 nations and will then gradually expand to other regions.

Digicel has more than 6 million subscribers in 26 nations throughout the Caribbean and Central America. The company has developed a rigorous evaluation process to ensure that the system chosen for their expanding network provided world class troubleshooting, surveillance and reporting capabilities, noted Mario Assaad, Group CTO at Digicel.

Officials at Digicel say they decided to deploy Accanto’s TAMS due its flexibility and comprehensive features. Assaad says that the TAMS, with its recently introduced Mobile X-Ray module, will accelerate Digicel’s mobile data services deployment.

Michele Campriani, chief executive officer of Accanto, said that the agreement with Digicel validates Accanto’s ability to help operators manage the complexities of converged mobile networks. The win also signals Accanto’s growing influence in Customer Service Assurance solutions, which help operators migrate from network-centric to a more customer-centric view of the business.

Digicel’s deployment was led by TeleNetworks Broadband Solutions of San Juan, Puerto Rico. TeleNetworks is a channel partner of Accanto Systems.

Felix Rivera, director of Sales-Caribbean at TeleNetworks explained that the Digicel infrastructure is extremely complex due to its high number of international VoIP, GSM/GPRS and CDMA connections.

“Despite the complexity of this multi-protocol environment, the TAMS system has provided Digicel with a new service and customer-oriented window into the network, which should allow them to speed deployment and improve quality of new services.”

Accanto Systems is a provider of Customer Service Assurance solutions for converged networks. The company has also released its new intelligent Customer Service Assurance solution to help wireless and wireline service providers manage the complexities of next-generation services in converged network environments.
