How the Cloud Sets Mobile Workers Free

By Mini Swamy, TMCnet Contributor

According to a recent article in The New York Times, young and old alike have scourged the Internet, leveraged its resources, opened shop and made a profit. This just goes to prove that no matter where you are, you can start a business and inching just a little ahead, you can ensure that you are always there for your customers.

So what would that entail? A basic communication system that lets you talk and listen, and what can be better than have the good old phone system follow you wherever you go! Take your office with you and your phone along with it---a phone that is connected over the Web with no tangled wires that knot themselves and you.

Welcome then to the "Cloud", the "hosted telephone system" that is flexible, scalable, affordable, reliable and profitable, centered in secure data centers. No more buying costly communication equipment, no more capital investment, no more hassles with waiting for calls, in fact you are free, liberated and can concentrate on things that really matter.

The cloud telephone system can connect you to your network anywhere, anytime and achieve greater productivity. Grow your business, cut your costs, maximize benefits, and in short have a nice, easy time without being bothered about anything else. All you need to do is to plug a pre-configured phone into the Ethernet and from then on the cloud takes over control and does everything for you.

With the introduction of VoIP based services, efficiency and Internet connectivity has increased, and worldwide communication has become easier. Unlimited number of calls can be made at any time, with VoIP services being free in some countries. The features are just tremendous. With Call Waiting, Caller ID displays, Call hold and a three-way calling and answering mode, VoIP promises to leap into the future with gigantic strides.

All you need to use VoiP is a high-speed internet connection on a broadband network, a VoIP service plan, and phone equipment. As most residences and business are equipped with a broadband Internet connection, that is not only high speed but also accommodates a VoiP system, VoIP services are becoming more and more popular.

Cloud-based phone systems are the engines of any virtual office. Customers can dial a single number, which is routed through VoiP to any number of devices, so there is no waiting involved. Some VoiP services allow you to send and receive files, text messages, pictures and videos, speaking of which even video conferencing is possible.

The upcoming Webinar will discuss how a cloud-based phone system and VoIP service can allow business owners and employees to work and communicate from anywhere and everywhere, and how geographic boundaries cease to exist.

An overview of three businesses that use a cloud-based phone system to extend their business to mobile worker, remote call centers and home-based offices along with the visible benefits for employees, customers and businesses will also be discussed.

The Webinar is scheduled for Thursday, July 22, 2010, 2.00 pm ET/11.00 am PT

CEOs and CIOs, IT Managers and SMB owners, Managers with mobile employees will benefit from the Webinar.

Attendees will learn

How cloud-based phone systems can allow employees to work from anywhere, anytime
How mobility as a feature can improve productivity, increase sales and communications
How other businesses have benefited from mobility features through real life examples

The Webinar will be presented by

Mr. Aicard, who joined Fonality (News - Alert) in the summer of 2009 to help with product and company growth, and Thomas McCarthy-Howe , who has over 20 years experience in the design and development of next generation communications equipment.

Detailed information about the presenters is given below.

Mr. Aicard is currently responsible for end-to-end product management, including research, product definition, project management, pricing/packaging, & quality assurance. He prides himself on his ability to make decisions that mutually benefit customers and Fonality. After many years of frustration with the status quo in the business telephony market, Mr. Aicard nearly abandoned the space to work in a more customer-centric industry. After learning more about Fonality, he found new hope in this market, left his previous employer of 10 years, and set a course to help Fonality reshape telephony as we once knew it.

Prior to Fonality, Mr. Aicard held several positions at Inter-Tel (News - Alert), including Director of Product Management and Director of Product Marketing. For roughly 7 years, he helped steer the definition, implementation, positioning and strategic direction of Inter-Tel's line-up of converged IP telephony solutions, including phones, applications and core systems.

In 2007, Inter-Tel merged with Mitel (News - Alert) leading Mr. Aicard into his most recent role prior to Fonality. He led an international team responsible for product management functions globally for all applications in the new Mitel portfolio.

Mr. Aicard participates regularly in presentations and industry panels within the IP telephony community, including trade shows such as Internet Telephony (News - Alert) Expo and VoiceCon, and has been published multiple times in Internet Telephony Magazine.

In March of 2007, Thomas McCarthy-Howe won the first O'Reilly Emerging Telephony Mashup Contest with his "After Hours Doctor's Office". In January, 2008, Thomas was listed among the most influential voices in VoIP. In March of 2008, Thomas won the VON Magazine (News - Alert) Innovator's Award. In September of 2008, Thomas won the first Broadsoft Mashup Contest with his "Disaster Dispatcher". In January, 2010, Thomas hosted the first cloud communications summit at IT Expo. In March 2010, Thomas was the editor of Cloud Communications 2010 : State of the Art, featuring work from twenty four thought leaders in next generation communications technology.

Thomas is an active software developer, concentrating on Voice Mashups and their supporting technologies such as Ruby, Rails, Adhearsion and Web as Platform architectures. Thomas is also a contributor to several online publications, such as VON Magazine, GigaOm, FierceVoIP and Programmable Web. Since 1996, Thomas has been an invited speaker at over a hundred telecommunications shows and conferences, speaking at sessions, keynoting and running workshops.
