Emerson Acquires Avocent Corporation

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

Emerson Network Power, has completed the acquisition of Avocent (News - Alert) Corporation. The business-critical continuity specialist has further strengthened its data center infrastructure management portfolio with this move.

Huntsville, Alabama-based Avocent recorded sales in 2008 of $657 million. It provides technologies and solutions that help IT professionals have better visibility into the data center infrastructure. This capability will give a boost to Emerson Network Power's (News - Alert) infrastructure management solutions. For data center managers, this means having a better control of energy consumption, IT operations and costs.

Ed Feeney, Emerson executive vice president, and business leader of Emerson Network Power commented on this acquisition. He said this step will enable the company to combine physical infrastructure and IT device knowledge. This combination will result in a very comprehensive infrastructure management solution.

Emerson Network Power will also be able to deliver a set of capabilities previously unavailable from any single source. Feeney added that by combining Avocent's technologies with Emerson’s own data center power, cooling and infrastructure management solutions, they will be able to help their customers better manage reliability, availability and lifecycle costs.

All this will be achieved through a simple yet comprehensive view of the complete data center physical infrastructure, said Feeney.

Avocent technologies effectively improve visibility and access across a wide range of physical infrastructure. It perfectly complements Emerson Network Power's existing power, precision cooling and monitoring solutions.

Emerson Network Power has had a busy month so far. In another announcement it informed the launch of a new range of IT infrastructure solutions. Designed for small-to-medium businesses in Australia, ‘OptimizeIT’ draws on Emerson Network Power’s expertise in enterprise-class IT infrastructure technology.

Earlier this month, the company also announced the ADN-C series, a next-generation addition to its ADN DIN rail power supply family. The new series supplies offer high density, efficiency, reliability and user-friendliness for a variety of industrial applications.
