Oracle VM Server for SPARC 2.0 Unveiled by Oracle

Oracle (News - Alert) announced the launch of the Oracle VM Server for SPARC 2.0, which is an integral part of Oracle Virtualization, the industry's most complete and integrated virtualization portfolio.


Oracle VM Server for SPARC, which was earlier known as Logical Domains, is pre-installed on Oracle's SPARC T-Series servers; it is a server virtualization solution which allows up to 128 virtual servers on one system by taking benefit of the enormous thread scale offered by SPARC T-Series servers, which include the new SPARC T3 servers, allowing the organizations to be benefitted from the increased flexibility and improved server utilization.

Performance, resource management, flexibility, power management and availability enhancements are all incorporated in Oracle VM Server for SPARC 2.0. Extremely complicated enterprise workloads like Oracle Real Application Clusters environment can be supported by Oracle VM Server for SPARC 2.0.

Oracle VM Server for SPARC enables running multiple separate OS environments, which include both Oracle Solaris 10 and Oracle Solaris 11 Express, on SPARC T-Series servers enabling quick consolidation of separate kernel environments with sharing and dynamic reallocation of CPU, network, storage and other resources.

Oracle VM Server for SPARC 2.0 is responsible for delivering Enhanced performance. Low-overhead architecture is able to offer scalable performance under increasing workloads. Dynamic memory reconfiguration enables memory to be added or removed on an active domain facilitating organizations to better align their IT and business priorities.

CPU clock speed adjustments along with memory power management and power limit settings guarantee optimized energy consumption with utilization. Oracle Solaris has been optimized for guest domain migration with Oracle VM Server for SPARC, whereby allowing a flexible migration of an active domain.

Improvements made on to the virtual disk multi-pathing improve the availability of a virtualized environment, ensuring that the virtual disk failover capabilities are able to handle I/O domain, storage and storage-path failures.
