The sale of GTT's Fundamental Mobile VoIP Patent Portfolio Imminent
By
Calvin Azuri
TMCnet Contributing Editor
A basic patent portfolio that deals with VoIP
communications over mobile devices is now available as through Global Technology Transfer Group (GTT). Consisting of one patent, one US patent application and a number of foreign counterparts, the portfolio goes by the name “Mobile VoIP Patent Portfolio”.
Some of the important points of the patent are, the running of VoIP software on a device, converting voice into data for transmission over a data network, and exchanging that data with a network using a short range wireless connection such as Bluetooth or WiFi
(802.11). These are also the points that make this patent special, according to the company.
VoIP software is now compatible with many cellular telephones, internet tablets, laptop computers, and other portable devices. Also connecting to a network over a WiFi (

) connection has become a common feature for such devices. There are also a number of companies that offer VoIP software that can be installed and run on these devices. In some instances, the VoIP software is pre-installed and available for use with a wireless connection out of the box.
GTT carried out a detailed analysis of the portfolio and has come out with a report that highlights the technology, potential markets and presented examples of Direct Evidence of Use.
Chairman and CEO of GTT, Michael Lubitz, is quoted as saying, "Because VoIP has emerged as a key feature on mobile, portable and handheld devices, and this portfolio will attract strong interest from major players in several markets. GTT is privileged to be exclusively representing the sale of these patents."
GTT provides services which outsource patent asset management and help corporations obtain the best deal for their patent assets. GTT leverages its global network and expertise in patent portfolio management, technology transfer, and investment banking to provide the highest value result. The company’s management and board consists of representatives with cross discipline specialization in the field of patent law, business law, intellectual property portfolio management, licensing, finance, operations, business development, marketing, strategic consulting, and mergers & acquisitions. The company’s main office is in Portland, Oregon.
