Verizon Optical LAN Solutions is a next generation passive optical network architecture built entirely on industry leading IT standards. The solution provides a LAN with environment friendly benefits and high bandwidth capabilities. OLS not only improve network efficiencies, but also reduce capital costs, and conserve energy.
OLS network’s Gigabit PON architecture means it can deliver full Gigabit Ethernet service to each desktop and, with GPON’s sophisticated data-encryption capabilities, provide the secure transport of information between users.
ADC’s (

The Rapid Fiber system deployed by Verizon Business (

The iFDH uses factory-terminated and tested mechanical transfer connectors, which reduces the cost and time of installation. Rapid iFDT serve as the distribution points for individual desktops.
“When Verizon Business came to us looking for next-generation fiber infrastructure to support its OLS solution for its federal customers, key issues were cost, speed of installation and quality,” Pat O’Brien, president of Global Connectivity Solutions for ADC, said.
O’Brien also added that ADC’s fiber equipment helped Verizon business address the issues of cable volumes and conservation of space very easily, by providing a completely passive green solution which reduced power consumption significantly, and consequently reduced the cooling costs of operating the network.
“Our federal customers can see for themselves why our OLS offering is a true green solution that is secure, scalable and can meet the needs of their future networks,” Ed Hill, director of program
management for Verizon Business, said.
Hill further added that the OLS green offering would help in network efficiency, enhance network capacity and reduce capital costs.
The Verizon Business OLS solution for federal customers is a significant improvement over the traditional network architecture. The dual-strand, multi mode fiber used to deliver data in traditional architectures have been replaced by single mode fiber all the way to the desk top. This would imply greater number of video channels, VoIP service and faster transmission of data.
ADC provides the connections for wireline, wireless, cable, broadcast, and enterprise networks around the world. ADC’s innovative network infrastructure equipment and professional services enable high-speed Internet, data, video, and voice services to residential, business and mobile subscribers.
In keeping with its innovative trend, ADC
announced that Western Iowa Networks, an independent telephone company providing broadband services to communities in western and southwestern Iowa, has selected ADC’s equipment to overbuild the city of Carroll, Iowa, with Fiber-to-the-Home.
