Active Power Secures $6 Million in PowerHouse Orders

By Jai C.S., TMCnet Contributor

Active Power, a provider of critical power solutions and uninterruptible power supply, or “UPS,” systems, announced that the company has till date secured $6 million in PowerHouse orders that represent more than 4.5 megawatts of mission critical backup power. Three of the orders have already been shipped with the remaining scheduled to ship later this year.

PowerHouse is said to be a fully scalable, modular, portable continuous power system available for rapid deployment in four standard configurations based on Active Power’s architecture. The complete system is housed in a standard ISO shipping container and can be deployed in any number of locations. The system, as stated by the company, allows customers to experience less energy and less uncertainty.

“We are encouraged by the sales momentum we are realizing for PowerHouse, which demonstrates the potential for this product in the marketplace,” said Jim Clishem, president and CEO at Active Power. “Our strong relationships with our strategic IT partners place Active Power in a unique position to benefit from this positive market acceptance of containerized datacenter technology.”

These orders, as stated, are from customers from countries around the world, including the United States, the United Kingdom and France. Customers represent a variety of industries including defense, telecommunications, petrochemical, education and information technology.

Half of the new PowerHouse orders will provide power and cooling architecture for containerized datacenter deployments with two being deployed in conjunction with Active Power’s strategic IT partners.

PowerHouse integrates Active Power’s flywheel-based CleanSource (News - Alert) UPS, switchgear, generator and monitoring software. These solutions are designed to protect critical operations in datacenters, healthcare facilities, manufacturing plants, broadcast stations and governmental agencies. The flywheel UPS technology blends well with other applications due to its high power density, small footprint and rugged design, providing a competitive barrier-to-entry for battery-based UPS systems.

Clishem also clarified that Active Power solution has been used in a variety of other applications including traditional facility infrastructure expansion, disaster recovery, temporary critical power needs and event support.
