Physical Infrastructure Management Automates Documentation

By Erin Harrison, Executive Editor, Strategic Initiatives

As data continues to rapidly multiply and customers demand more, enterprises have to be able to deploy new applications and technologies to support their client expectations.

“At the core of that enterprise, businesses need to respond and be agile as quick as possible. Customers require and demand new applications, and all those reside in the data center,” Jeff Paligia, director of global solutions at Panduit said in a recent interview with TMCnet.

Across data centers, building facilities, factory floors and harsh outdoor environments, a reliable, integrated and agile physical infrastructure is required to provide high connectivity, security and power as a foundation for the logical infrastructure to be effective. Complex environments require automated monitoring and diagnostic tools to help more simply manage them and deliver reliable performance.

Panduits’ Physical Infrastructure Manager Software is a Web-based application that offers performance functions, including automated documentation of network connectivity, change notifications, asset management and reporting, and virtual server mapping functions, according to company officials.

The Tinley, Ill.-based company designed the software platform, which works with Panview iQ System Hardware, or monitoring and managing physical infrastructure complexity. The PIM Software Platform and PViQ System continuously monitor and verify the accuracy of the patch field database at all times and creates automated documentation, streamlining reporting of critical physical layer connectivity, metrics and status, company officials said.

The system creates automated up-to the-minute reports and documentation that can be used to assist with policy management in compliance with corporate and/or regulatory reporting mandates and requirements.

In addition to providing enhanced network reliability, Panduit’s PIM Software Platform automates reporting with accurate electronic documentation of the network streamlines reporting of critical physical layer connectivity, metrics and status by eliminating manual reporting. Auditable event reports enforce policy management in compliance with corporate and regulatory mandates, company officials said. The PIM solution can help enterprises as well as small and medium-sizes businesses.

A UPI-based solution allows for improvements in infrastructure efficiency and productivity along with a substantial reduction in operational costs. According to company officials, Panduit’s alliances with industry leaders such as Cisco Systems (News - Alert), EMC, Emerson, IBM, etc. enable its “highly-skilled and knowledgeable global sales, systems engineering and technical support teams to engage with critical customer challenges that range from initial problem determination all the way to resolution.”
