Mellanox Technologies, a supplier of end-to-end connectivity solutions for data center servers and storage systems, and Arista Networks announced that IBM (News - Alert) WebSphere MQ Low Latency Messaging maintained a latency of 4s at rates up to 100K messages/second and 6s at one million messages/second using Mellanox ConnectX-2 EN NICs with RoCE and Arista 7100 10GigE switch.
Arista Networks specializes in the provisioning of low latency 10GigE Ethernet switches for enterprise data centers. Latency remained consistently low as the number of multicast groups increased from one to one thousand. This kind of optimized performance is imperative for financial institutions and other enterprise applications. In such cases every millisecond of improved latency means millions of dollars realized in profits.
In a release, Mansour Karam, managing director of business development at Arista Networks, said, “We are pleased to collaborate with Mellanox (News - Alert). The combination of Arista’s ultra-low latency 10GigE switches and Mellanox’s network adapter products with RoCE deliver industry-leading latencies for high frequency trading applications.”
Mellanox’s ConnectX-2 EN adapters feature RoCE as an add-on feature in order to implement the IBTA RDMA over Converged Ethernet standard. It uses the OpenFabrics Enterprise Distribution or OFED and application programming interfaces. ConnectX-2 EN with RoCE supports both 10 and 40 Gigabit Ethernet.
John Monson, vice president of marketing at Mellanox Technologies, said, “ConnectX-2 EN with RoCE adapters deliver up to 1/10th the latency, reduced power consumption and improved economics compared to other standards-based 10GigE adapter solutions in the market today.”
Monson pointed out that the combination of low latency Ethernet switches from Arista and networking solutions from Mellanox provides financial services applications featuring low-latency and sustained performance. These are most suitable for the higher message rate requirements of financial markets.
Arista Networks delivers cloud networking solutions for large data center and computing environments. It offers best-of-breed 10 Gigabit Ethernet switches that promise scalability, robustness, and price-performance. Arista’s 7000 Family is based on the Extensible Operating System or EOS which is modern software architecture with self-healing and live in-service software upgrade capabilities.
Recently in the news, Mellanox Technologies announced its launch of IS5000 50 Gb/s Infiniband switch system family and FabricIT management suite.
