Nirvanix Offering Data Relocation to Customers of Japanese Data Center

By Madhubanti Rudra, TMCnet Contributor

A provider of enterprise-class cloud storage services Nirvanix came up with a new program for the customers of its Node 3 data center in Japan in response to the earthquake and tsunami. Although the operations at the center continuing normally, the program is intended to offer extra peace of mind to its customers seeking extra protection at such uncertain times as this.

Under the program, the Nod 3 customers are offered the option of moving data to other Nirvanix (News - Alert) data centers located in Europe or other continents. The customers are provided with two choices—they can either move their data temporarily or permanently. The service is offered completely free of cost, Nirvanix announced in a press release.

With the help of redundant diesel generator power backups and full UPS redundancy,  Nirvanix claims that its carrier-class data centers are fully redundant with full power supply at all times—even during rolling blackout periods—ensuring that  the company's data centers are running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week the company said.

According to Nirvanix, its Node 3 data center is no exception. Located approximately 200 miles away from the impacted area, the facility is completely secure and offering all services as usual, Nirvanix maintained. Nirvanix is offering the data relocation option simply to ensure that its customers stay calm and confident through the times of disaster, the officials at the company explained.

Nirvanix’ data relocation program reflects a rare gesture of business helping other businesses in times of need and the initiative has been thoroughly appreciated by the industry players. Nirvanix has rightly utilized its global footprint and made the intelligent use of cloud technology to offer exemplary customer services—that is sure to strengthen the relationship with its customers in the upcoming days.

“In times like these we want to send money, aid, resources or prayers. This gesture by Nirvanix is business helping other businesses in a time of need, taking advantage of the global footprint of the Web and the resilient power of the cloud. It makes us begin to re-think business continuity in the 21st century,” president and co-founder of Wikibon.org, an IT think tank, David Vellante said in a statement.

The customers seeking relocation can choose from four additional Nirvanix data centers, of which three are in the U.S. (Los Angeles, New York & Dallas) and one in Frankfurt, Germany.

“Our hearts and minds are with those impacted in Japan and we are standing by ready to assist our customers during this tragic time. One of the business benefits our customers have by leveraging Nirvanix cloud solutions is the ability to move data whenever they need to, across continents. Should our customers have the desire to move their data out of region, we will make sure that it is transitioned smoothly and in a timely manner, with absolutely no disruption to their business operations,” president and CEO of Nirvanix Scott Genereux noted in a statement.

The customers seeking more information about this program are encouraged to contact Nirvanix atinfo@nirvanix.com.

Earlier this year, Nirvanix appointed Steve Zivanic as vice president of marketing. Zivanic responsibilities involved spearheading strategic marketing initiatives and driving increased brand awareness of the company on a global scale, the company mentioned in a media release.
