VMware Express Virtualization Tour Brings Desktop Virtualization to Customers & Partners

VMware, Inc., a provider of virtualization solutions from the desktop through the datacenter and to the cloud, has announced that it is going to bring its VMware Express on the roads. VMware Express is a state-of-the-art mobile datacenter, demo lab and briefing center that will enable the customers and partners across the United States and Canada have a look at the desktop virtualization and cloud computing solutions from VMware. The company has named the campaign as ‘VMware Express Virtualization Tour 2010’ which will stop in 150 cities. A number of companies such as AMD, Cisco, Dell, EMC (News - Alert), MDS Micro, NetApp and Xsigo have sponsored the trip. 


VMware Express had been introduced at the VMware Partner Exchange Feb. 8 in Las Vegas, Nev. The mobile datacenter contains five demo stations showcasing VMware desktop and server virtualization solutions, and highlights VMware View, VMware vSphere and the VMware vCenter family of products. It features a fully equipped conference room for customers to discuss VMware solutions with technical experts, which can enable lab environments on the fly both inside and outside the vehicle. 

According to Chief Marketing Officer, VMware, Rick Jackson, the VMware Express represents a new way for the company to get out into the community and show customers first-hand all the benefits they can achieve by using VMware solutions in their organizations. Jackson continued that VMware Express puts company’s industry-leading technology in the hands of customers on the journey to cloud computing, enabling them to evaluate multiple VMware solutions in real-world environments, right in their own backyard. 

The customers will be able to go through a number of solution demos onboard the VMware Express. These demos will highlight the products being offered by the company, including VMware View, VMware vSphere and VMware vCenter Server. Out of these, VMware View is a purpose-built solution for delivering desktops as a managed service, transforming desktop management into a simplified and automated process, reducing the total cost of desktop ownership by up to 50 percent, providing end users a consistent high-performance desktop experience and bringing the power of the datacenter and VMware vSphere to desktops. While VMware vSphere is a virtualization platform that decouples business-critical applications from the underlying hardware to offer the highest levels of availability and responsiveness for all applications and services with the lowest total cost per application workload.

The third product, VMware vCenter Server is a scalable and extensible virtualization management platform that provides the foundation for VMware vSphere and the VMware vCenter family of products, including VMware vCenter CapacityIQ, VMware vCenter AppSpeed (News - Alert) and VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager. 

February 2010, in collaboration with Mitel, a provider of unified communications solutions, VMware announced to introduce Virtual Mitel (News - Alert) Communications Director or ‘Virtual MCD’, part of the new Mitel Virtual Solutions software portfolio as well as the first customers to deploy Virtual MCD.
