Procera Networkshas launched the PacketLogic PL8720- the industry's first purpose-built, two rack unit 10 Gbps deep packet inspection "DPI" appliance.
The company's engineers have created PacketLogic PL8720 for customers that have accelerating network growth plans in place and who are transitioning or will transition from GE to 10GE links.
The device can deliver up to 10 Gbps of throughput in a cost and space efficient two rack unit form factor. Procera claims that with up to eight 10GE or sixteen GE ports in a single appliance, its PL8720 boasts the greatest DPI port density per rack unit on the market.
This product release allows service providers to have a DPI platform in a power saving appliance that will easily upgrade from GE to 10GE. The PL8720 doesn't burn a hole in the pockets of service providers because it promises lower capital expenditures and operating expenses.
Scalability is also not an issue with the new PL8720 as multiple systems can be clustered to support growth up to 80 Gbps of throughput in a single deployment.
This dramatic reduction in the cost of 10GE DPI solutions is achieved by leveraging the latest hardware and software technology. The platform uses Procera's Datastream Recognition Definition Language (DRDL) and the PacketLogic Intelligence Center to ensure that proper network and business decisions are made based on reliable intelligence.
Customers purchasing the PL8720 will benefit from the same extensive feature-set as the other PacketLogic family members. Users will get the support for asymmetric and geographically dispersed network deployments and use PL8720 for broadband networks.
Jon Linden, Procera's vice president of global marketing noted that the PacketLogic PL8720 addresses the demand from service providers and higher education institutions as they further upgrade their network to 10GE links.
'The PL8720 fulfills this need and will serve as a catalyst for these customers to deploy DPI solutions as we change the economics of DPI," said Linden. "Complete application, subscriber, location and device awareness enables PL8720 to implement intelligent network traffic analysis, network optimization, congestion control, network protection and innovative service creation.'
